Registration does not recognize my serial number for new iPad

I have tried multiple times but it says product serial number does not exist

iPad, iOS 5.1

Go to Settings-General-About and see if there is a serial number listed.


You may have a defective iPad. I suggest you show it to an Apple Store Genius. If the Genius agrees, you may get a replacement on the spot.


One thing you can try is to reset (reboot) your iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

Thanks Fred I went ahead and tried to reset but that didn't work either everything else on the iPad is working and the serial number is the same on the settings tab under about as it is on my box so I have a scheduled call into Apple for tomorrow morning I hope it's not deffective I would think that would mean that would work at all thanks again
