^ Thanks for that info. Did you charge it from 0%? By the way, there are reports that the new iPad keeps charging for about two hours after it reaches 100%, although I'm not sure if this was measured on just one sample or more. Anyway, it would be a good idea to keep it plugged in after it reaches 100% to be sure that the battery is indeed fully charged.

To clarify, I meant how long it would take to charge from 0% to 100% in sleep mode.

I plug my iPad in at night and when I wake up in the morning it's 100% charged (after approx 8 hours). But I don't know how long it takes to reach that 100%. In view of reports about it continuing to charge for approx two hours after it reaches 100%, I wanted to have some idea of when I reaches 100%.

Thanks to all those who posted their findings above.

Well, I don't know that the conclusion is innaccurate but I don't hold the guy in high regard.

"Soneira found that the iPad continued to draw 10 watts of electricity..."

No device in the world draws wattage. It draws current, which is measured in amps (amperes).

Further, according to Apple (what do they know?), the charge current drops significantly at the two-hour mark.

^ You are right in that the charge current should drop off around 80%. For them on it charges much more slowly. However this guy did measure his iPad drawing 10 watts after it reached 100%. Only, we don't know if other iPads also exhibit this behaviour or it is only his sample. Hopefully someone else will conduct another test.

I can't imagine how he measured that. As I said, devices do NOT draw watts. Period.

Second, even if he used correct semantics, there isn't a charger in the world that will continue to charge at the maximum rate after the battery reaches a 100% level. That's a good way to make a battery explode.

Why are you unwilling to accept Apple's explanation?
