On the day they announced the 5D MarkIII I sent a recommendation into Apple to update the RAW. So evidently that info does not get to the pro photo support. And how could they NOT know about the Mark III. There are only two main DSLR manufactures out there for pro cameras.... its not too difficult to see when it was going to be released.
Yeah....I'm not sure how "pro" this guy actually was? I tried to explain to him that most of the people who were buying the mk3 were professionals and would be relying on RAW photos in aperture. He wasn't particualry helpful and didn't seem all that knowledgeable 😟 beyond frustrating at this point.
Agree.
I just called as well and broke the super mysterious news that no one at Apple knew regarding the completely unpublished and hush-hush purported release of something called a 5DIII from some company known as Canon..."REALLY?!?" was the response I received....hmmm. No timeline provided.
Pretty sad...hello?...waiting for an update Tim....
Maybe if we inundate them with calls and feedback they will work faster (might not, but it's worth a try right?!)

Awesome! Submitted one for each of my email addresses.
Pass it on!
I had the same issue when the 7D was first released. It seems to me it was about 5 or 6 weeks after I got the 7D before the RAW converters were available from Apple. I knew that going in so I wasn't really surprused and in the interim I just used the 'convert to DNG' technique and then imported into Aperture as normal. It was certainly annoying for a few weeks but not really all that big a deal. However, I'm not trying to make a living at it so annoying didn't cost me any money, just a little lost productivity.
It seems to be an issue of getting the FINAL spec from Canon before Apple creates and releases the converter.
I'll gladly deal with this again if Amazom would just ship my 5D3.
While there are work-arounds, I want full Aperture support now. 😠
The Lightroom 4 Team is on the ball and will release an update THIS WEEK as confirmed by PS Team here:
It may be time to explore other opportunities at this point.
Oh and the 5D Mark III ROCKS!!!
This is completely normal. Canon doesn't provide Apple (or Adobe) with advance copies to work on the RAW converters. They get to work on it as soon as they can. Usually it takes several weeks before it shows up.
I noticed the new Canon Powershot G1 X RAW converter showed up about a week ago ... that camera had only been out for a few weeks so I was pretty impressed with how quickly it came out.
If you ever buy a camera that was just released, expect to wait a few weeks (sometimes a few months) before the RAW converters are available. It's been this way for years... both Adobe and Apple are similar.
Thanks for the info TC1. I hope it is soon.
Adobe labs (LR4.1 update) just released "release candidate" supporting 5D Mark 3...
I like Aperture too much to abandon it, but I did phone support for an update and wasn't given anything helpful. I've also submitted feedback within Aperture. Let's hope they get on it asap because I share this frustration along with everyone else.
I've a deadline in 48 hours, 5DMrkIII content, Aperture, just switched horses to LR4.1 and back in the race again -- I'm sure everything will sort itself out and until then....
Same as well, but about 7 days and counting now...bummer.
Did you purchase LR4? I was wondering if you can get the trial version free for 30 days but also have the capability of installing the 4.1 patch on top of the trial version. This would be nice AND cost effective as well as buy 30 days in hopes the Aperture Team can get in gear...
Just a thought...
I've noticed Apple has been getting faster with their RAW updates. I'm still shooting with a 5D II (haven't upgraded to to the III yet), BUT... I did get a Powershot G1 X for those places where I can't bring a DSLR and noticed that the RAW update showed up within a month (it used to much longer.)
So hopefully the 5D III RAW converter is available shortly. Sadly, Apple is EXTRMELEY secretive about such things. I understand why they want to be secretive about completely new products or new versions of products. But that's really the wrong approach for "professional" software. Pros don't like to be suprised. Pros want to know if the item is on a priority track for release or if the vendor plans to take their sweet time ... so they can make arrangement necessary to run a business.
Adobe only semi has a RAW converter. The only way to get it is to get the "release candidate" (read: not fully baked) version of Lightroom 4.1. If you're a Photoshop customer (as I am) or running Lightroom 4.0 (production) then there's no RAW support for the 5D III yet.
Some others pointed the way, but I downloaded Adobe Digital Negative Converter Version 6.7.0.319 beta (free from Adobe) and my 5D MK III raw images converted to .dnc files that Aperture imports with no problem. It's an extra step, but until Apple catches up to Adobe it works for me.
I just shot a message into the support web form black hole bugging them about this. I've got RAW files piling up. In my experience the Aperture product is fantastic, but Aperture support is weak.
