iPad 3 charging issues

I have had my shiny new iPad plugged in overnight with it's included iPad charger (it was displaying some context for some of that).

I have just woken up and it's only at 39%!!!! Now I know that it's meant to take longer to charge but that is unbelievable!?

As I said I'm using the lead and charger it came with, the only exception is I'm also using a usb extension lead inbetween as the plug is quite far away. I used the same lead with my iPad 2 every night and it charged fine and fast.

It also kept displaying not charging when plugged into my PC (which is definitely high powered ports).

Should I be booking a genius bar appointment do you think!?

Thanks!

Mostly just mad that we don't have fully functional devices. Unfortunately it is sometimes difficult to tell what's going through someone's mind on the internets. Anyway, I'm glad that you have a functional device! I'm off to the Apple store to exchange my "perfect except for a few dead pixels" iPad now. Wish me luck! 🙂

So far, for the ppl with charging probs.. can try farmerpig's method...
1. Restore to factory defaults via Itunes
2. Update the Ipad via itunes...

If the above works, it means IPADS from factory has been preinstalled with wrong or bugged software? LoL

better check if brightness and other stuffs are turned off by default.

Btw, turning off positioning, 4G and lowering brightness does save alot of battery life.

Thank for your post...My settings were reinstalled, half brightness, positioning off and I am still charging while plugged in and suffing the net / using apps...I believe this is the fix....But since I did this today and I am still redownloading my apps, I can not be sure, But I am charging my Ipad3 while all else is going on...and I could not do this before...It would have been a battery drain...not no more, it is charging while using!

Ok, My Ipad(3) is now at full brightness and I am still downloading apps, yet from the cloud, but I am still showing I am charging...So maybe the fix, as I advised several blog inputs ago will work...Dud, did you do what I said to do, if you did not, FU! - I am sure after reading all of my post's you know what that means...Not perfect but depend...Who Dat!

The iPad 10W USB Power Adapter, Apple iPad Adapter are turning to cosmetic design of 2006, but contains enhancements that have never been seen on Apple products and the size of the previous price. The new circuit inside allows the 10W Adapter works with any iPhone and iPod released since 2005, and the relative power hungry iPad, dynamic switching between 0.5 Amp, 1 Amp and 2.1 Amp output level so that one device can recharge the maximum possible rate-about 3 hours for the iPod and iPhone vs 4 or 4.5 hours for the iPad. My new iPad with RIGHT charger as delivered in the box charges from 10% to full capacity in 6 hrs. NO CHARGING PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER. If you compare the specs (tiny, tiny letters) on the various chargers you have with the one for the New Ipad you notice a difference in amps, but they're all 10W. Hope this helps. Not only are you right but,

1. One of the iPad 3's was at 67% and all others 94-97%. None at 100%

2. Then I went past three tablets in a row that were at 100% before I realized I had turned to the iPad2 display.

Many posters on this thread should chill but the reality is the iPad3 I bought to upgrade the wife's iPad 1 was returned today, day 14 after purchase, with no hassle. They guy who took it said it was his first open box return. The screen was resolutionary but the battery was a slow charge, quick discharge under low demands, in spite of the tricks listed on this thread. It was warm with use, not hot, but all she was doing was book reading and Words with friends. I went through THREE of the gen one MacAir's before getting one that was good (not hot, no kernal failures) so I may be a bit sensitive on being an early adopter. I also have an iPad2 and it is a good machine. May be the best thing to get now if you are in a wifi environment is the iPad2 at $399. Pretty great machine for that price. The safe play here if you want an iPad3 is to wait a couple of months. Apple will fix it along the way, perhaps without acknowledging the issue. I say wait until you see 100% battery on the display iPads in the store before your buy.

As far as the dead pixels and the pink/yellow hue on the screen, I didn't have it. The screen was very nice. I miss it already even though it was "hers."

Having the same problems as pretty much everybody else on this thread with the charge level dropping during use even though plugged in to the supplied charger. Just did a small experiment and turned the screen brightness down to 50% from the max level I usually use. The charge was at 96% and still plugged in, I did some surfing and email, noted that the charge level did not change (good, i thought, at least it's not still dropping), then opened iCal, stared at it for a minute, stood up and went into the kitchen for 5 minutes (no more, really). When I returned, I was shocked to see the reported charge level at 100%! ***! This sudden jump screams "software issue" to me, as it is physically impossible for the battery to charge that much in that short of a time. Undoubtedly there are genuine hardware issues as well (I've tried turning off LTE and cellular and still saw the drain issue), but there has to be a SW bug on the charge level reporting side, too, perhaps in the power management as well (we can hope; this means a future update could fix). FWIW, this is my third iPad (one of each gen), and my screen is definitely one of the amber colored ones and in general the unit is not up to the same quality as the priors (in addition to the screen and power/battery life issues, the home button sticks out too far).

BTW, in the time it took to type this out on my iPad, the charge level now show 100% with the plug icon. Weird...

Hey guys I took my iPad back to apple last thursday (one day before day 14) and swapped it for another, and well so far so good, when I got home I plugged it into my Macbook pro 13 and the iPad was on 92% and within an hour was at 100%. I have only charged it once so far and that was over night but I think the battery is fine because when I woke up it was at 100% where as my first iPad 3 would only be on like 69%.

The guys at the genius bar said that there was deffonatly a current connection problem and also I think they said something about the chip causeing the problem. Anyway I have also noticed, not that it bothered me that much in the first place, but the iPad in general doesnt seem to be getting very hot.

Can I just ask though has anyone had problems with their iPad 3 and the iPad 2 smart cover?

I bought mine off eBay and even though it said it was genuine, im not totally sure, it has the "Designed by Apple in california assembled in china" by the metal bar. But anyway for some reason it wont work with my iPad 3. Also it came in legit packaging.
