iPad 3 charging issues

I have had my shiny new iPad plugged in overnight with it's included iPad charger (it was displaying some context for some of that).

I have just woken up and it's only at 39%!!!! Now I know that it's meant to take longer to charge but that is unbelievable!?

As I said I'm using the lead and charger it came with, the only exception is I'm also using a usb extension lead inbetween as the plug is quite far away. I used the same lead with my iPad 2 every night and it charged fine and fast.

It also kept displaying not charging when plugged into my PC (which is definitely high powered ports).

Should I be booking a genius bar appointment do you think!?

Thanks!

The iPad charger would be plugged into a meter that measures the amount of current being drawn. So when the iPad indicates 100% charge, if the meter indicates that current above a trickl rate is still being drawn then the iPad is still being charged.

If the study is correct, then what is happening most likely affects all iPad 3s

"Okay, I have a question. So how does one know if their iPad is one of the ones that is giving a false read out of a full charge of 100%?"

Just touch the charger itself. If it stays hot or even warm then it is still charging beyond 100%. Once the iPad if fully charged, no matter what the charging indicator says, it will no longer draw current from the charger and the charger will cool down as if it's not plugged in at all.

I have had my new iPad since the 16th. I have been on it for several hours with brightness set all the way and auto switch turned off. It is just barely warm. I have not experienced any other problems either. I am perfectly satisfied with my new iPad.

Flaws aside, I love my NEW 3rd Gen iPad. BUT I seriously believe they need to come up with a solution. Being that this is my first iPad and they don't have an iPad 2 with enough memory for me to swap it for, I don't have the choice to return it.

Here's a test for EVERYONE that I did today. Walk into apple store. Look at iPads that NEVER come unplugged. Today when I did, 8 were between 96-98% and 2 at 100%. This is after the store had only been open a half hour and was slow. Only one other person near the ipad section. If they worked properly you could use them and gain a charge and not slowly lose it or be at a stand still. I held one, WHILE PLUGGED IN, watched a few YouTube videos on it and in 10 minutes it went from 98% to 97%.

IT IS SUPPOSED TO GO UP WHILE PLUGGED IN, not down!

Bigger battery or not, 4-6 hours to charge ANY electronic is crazy. Fix the algorithm and give us bigger chargers!

I suspect the chargers used in APPLE stores are most likely the 1 Amp chargers...

have anyone tested with 3 Amp mains chargers? there's quite a few 2.1 Amp usb chargers which is supposed to support IPADs and there's a 3Amp USB charger which I think might solve the charging issue that IPAD3 users are facing.

having said that, the 3Amp USB charger need to bought from non-apple manufacturer... =_=|| ie. no warranty from apple..

5V 3A = 15W as compared to the supplied

You're right.

Try to set brightness to the max and observe like it exceeds power consumption over the charger ability to refill battery. As a result, battery energy is depleting instead of increasing.

Moreover, rising your new iPad 3 brightness to the max will always rise it’s temerature to 33.6°C/92.48°F. It’s normal for iPad 3, even if iPad 2 stays cold in that situation. 🙂

Howdy, I had all of the problems discussed. My New Ipad(3) will not charge while plugged into the wall while using it, it took too long to charge when off. all of the reasons..I have had all of the Ipads and this one just would not charge at all without it being turned off. So today I called Apple...I was directed to plug it into my computer itunes and reset it, upload the fix and see if that fixed it. So that called for a backup and new updates not given from the cloud. It was a 1.06 GB update from itunes..It took most of the day for my connection, but the out come was I am now charging the Ipad while using it, just like the Ipad2 so it appears to be a fix...after the update I still have about 4 hours to put back my apps (still slow connection) but at least my meter is charging while plugged in and downloading apps or using it...which the Ipad3 did not do before...

If this is the fix GB Apple...

Yeah, what fix? Apple has made no statement of a fix or a patch? iTunes doesn't show any updated software when you plug in the iPad. I'm not sure who you spoke with or who you're trying to fool. Maybe they just told you to do a simple restore with a new iOS installation because that helps with some issues, not the charging one though.

And in your post you sound satisfied but then at the end you say "if this is the fix goodbye Apple" so you're making no sense.

Bellatone, GB for me is God Bless...Just trying to be PC...hey you can figure that one out...The fix they gave me worked..Not sure what all the hate is...yep, as i said no fix was announced, but when I called they directed me to do what I said to do...Dud relax, smoke a dub and reload! it's not so bad, hey I am over 50 and happy, we never had any of this 10 years ago.....

I know, but it seams we are all mad at something...I can not know all or everyones issues, but for now my Ipad3 is charged 100% and I am using itand it appears to be charging at the sametime. It does not charge hooked to my Airbook...It is charging while I am using it...So my issues are fixed..I guess I need a class as my text skills are lacking...Such as FU and KMA and LOL ....so all is well
