iPad 3 charging issues

I have had my shiny new iPad plugged in overnight with it's included iPad charger (it was displaying some context for some of that).

I have just woken up and it's only at 39%!!!! Now I know that it's meant to take longer to charge but that is unbelievable!?

As I said I'm using the lead and charger it came with, the only exception is I'm also using a usb extension lead inbetween as the plug is quite far away. I used the same lead with my iPad 2 every night and it charged fine and fast.

It also kept displaying not charging when plugged into my PC (which is definitely high powered ports).

Should I be booking a genius bar appointment do you think!?

Thanks!

Sorry, don't buy this. I showed my ipad to several people in the office at even 67% brightness, and they felt that that was way too bright for things like reading emails or surfing the web - any apps with a white or light background.

Second, at 100% brightness, it is like driving a car at 100 mph in fifth gear, and expecting to get the vehicle's maximum rated MPH, just not going to happen.

Most users do not keep their ipad on the max brightness all day, so the product is not going to be manufactured so that it will have max battery life on the highest brightness setting.

As for the iphone, it is a different device with a far smaller screen, and I do not believe that they can be compared.

For the temperature issue, mine has never gotten that hot even on max setting for 2 hours watching a film - actually i cycled a film 5 times to exhaust the battery and completely re-cycle it, and the device did not get particularly warm. I had the brightness up to around 80-85%, and could easily hold the ipad in my hand.

Sorry, but most purchasers are not experiencing these issues.

I agree. For regular web browsing, iBooks reading, email, light game playing, regular apps use, none of my three new iPads (sequentially, since two were replaced for non-heat/power issues) has ever gotten even moderately warm, much less hot by any standard. I do use the iPad at full brightness during the day, since it's competing with the surrounding light, but in shaded areas or in the evening, I have to turn the backlight down to around 50% to avoid squinting it's so bright relative to the room lighting.

Charging has also been a non-issue for my regular viewing habits, as it discharges around 10% an hour for me, even viewing streaming movies over my home network while I use my elliptical. In short, it behaves in every normal way as my first generation iPad did, except for recharging times. My first gen iPad recharged at around 20% an hour. My new iPad charges around 16-17% an hour.

People who are having heating or charging issues in normal usage should get them replaced. If their normal usage requires intensively exercising the quad core GPU and battery such that they are uncomfortable using the unit, perhaps they should consider returning it for a refund and wait for Apple's technology to catch up with their needs, or seek out other devices that more closely meet their needs. In short, if your unit is defective, replace it; if your unit's performance is unsatisfactory to your needs, return it.

My pad won't charge connected to an iPhone ac plug .. Just says not charging.

What's getting tiresome is your trolling which several people have already asked you to stop. How much is Apple paying you to slander everyone who has a problem with their iPad? Do they keep you on retainer or pay you per person you scare off.

I get email updates all the time from this thread and you're always posting, all day long. Not much of a life you've got there.

Excuse me, not from this thread, from the overheating thread. You shill incessantly. And you have never denied being employed by Apple, have you?

Though if Apple has decided to hire people like yourself to try to scare off customers, I may have to rethink purchasing Apple products in the future.

Your claim that I'm employed by Apple is likely the best demonstration of how little you understand about real-world PR.
