Buy it thru the Mac App Store. It will download and install itself.
Be aware that PowerPC apps will not work anymore.

10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.

The MacBook Pro with the Core Duo cannot run Lion. A Core 2 Duo or later CPU is required as explained in Rysz's post.
