YouTube problems with Safari for many users

It seems that quite a few other users are having problems with Safari and YouTube after the recent updates.

(On another note, there's even more problems with Facebook and Safari.)

It seems that Safari isn't getting along with the web's two most popular sites. I am having these problems myself. Chrome seems to handle them fine, being WebKit also...

Hi all,

disabling the HTML5 test mode did NOT work for me. My problems with Youtube in Safari 5.1.7 are the same with or without this test mode.

Problems:

1) Most of the times, videos just stop suddenly and Youtube's loading wheel keeps turning indefinitely.

2) Youtube control buttons do not work at all. It is as if play, pause, and scrolling were entirely disabled.

I have left the HTML 5 trial but now I'm seeing a new problem. Videos are suffering a jumping frames problem - not stuttering exactly but frames are jumping forwards or back (as if fluttering) for a couple of frames before playing normally again. It's very distracting and only happens in Safari.

I have the same problem as signature "BTB1306" mentions above independent of the HTML5 deactivation/activation.

While watching you tube after I while it stops and the loading weel starts and just hangs.

I have safari Version 6.0 (7536.25) and OS 10.7.4, I tried the latest version of firefox but the same problem occurs at the exact same stage as then using Safari. Latest Adobe flash player installed

Anyone have an other idea how to look at you tube with a MacBook pro?

Hi,

in another thread, I reported the following, which coincides entirely with the issues described by TonyTony777:

"another finding: one of the problems that I experienced with Safari (see above) appeared today as well on Firefox: videos just stop playing suddenly and the loading wheel keeps spinning without end.

That is, my worry now is, not only that Safari has some incompatibility with youtube (possibly with other Google sites?), but more generally, that Apple's hardware or Mac's OS may have it.

Anyone wih the same problem?

BTW, does Apple ever use these forums to inform themselves about issues with their sof- and hardware?"

I updated Safari to version 6 and haven't noticed the problem yet. I'll write a reply if a problem comes up.

I'm running on OSX Lion (as Apple denied my free upgrade to Mountain Lion, against their criteria. But this is another issue...)

Rbuck,

I updated to Safari 6, still running Lion, and did not experience the problems that I had had with Safari 5 and Youtube. A few days later, I upgraded to Mountain Lion and have, so far, not experienced any issues.

I uninstalled Firefox and, therefore, have not had the chance to test if the problems there remain.

That is, updating to Safari 6 seems to have solved my problems with Youtube, both with Lion and Mountain Lion. If I run into any problem, I will report it here, so that we can keep the follow-up.

Here's something that seems to work for me. I was trying to download the McLaughlin Group in YouTube and I was getting those small items in the activity window. I'm running Lion and Safari 5.1.7.

I changed the quality of the video from 360p to 480p and the full size of the video showed up in the activity window and I could download it as before. Don't know if that's the case with all videos in YouTube.
