iPad 3 tethering APN problem

I have experienced same issue too.

I could only work if I put only APN setting. (leave username and password blank)

I hope Apple will fix this issue.

Same problem here. Not happy about it, but at least I feel a bit better knowing that I'm not unique with such an issue.

Had the same problem with My airtel nigeria sim which tethered normally on my iphone 4s but not on the ipad3. Tethering settings disappeared as soon as the page is closed and reopened, and no hotspot

Removing the username and password from both apn setting and tethering setting fixe this

Final solution:

Specify your pan in the following way where applicable

Login@password:apnname

Do not enter login and password separately and use this method in both apn fields. Restart iPad if necessary.

My bad, there's an error in my post

it should be login:password@apn, where you replace the words with respective data.

Thanks Pavel for the tips, the configuration does saved, but I can't use the internet connection using username:password@APN format.

It didn't work for me as well at once. Restarting the device after inputting the settings solved my issue.

If your operator does not require password, your apn string should look like user@apn.

I have been following this thread with interest. I am having the exact same problem with Bmobile in Japan and a next-gen iPad.

I have attempted to use the suggestions in this thread by setting an APN string that includes the username and password. Unfortunately, this does not seem to work, as my username itself actually already has an @ symbol in it (ie, 'bmobile@u300'). iOS seems to get confused by the multiple @s. I did also attempt to URL escape the first @ symbol using '%40', but iOS didn't like that either.

Is anyone else using Bmobile in Japan? If so, I'd be VERY interested to hear what you've done to work around this problem!

I have a similar problem, e.g. an @ in my APN username + a password. I've tried "namewith@symbol:password"@apn and "namewith@symbol":password@apn, but neither works.

Pavel, do you take your suggestions from a source or are you guessing? If the former, could you please share the link, so that I can look into it a bit more? I'd really like to get the tethering settings in there ("normal" 3G networking works fine when I enter the APN settings in their three-part form into the APN settings area).

Also, any idea what the best way to report this bug to Apple is? The "tethering settings not being saved" thing must certainly be a bug, as my wireless provider certainly allows to use the plan with tethering (I checked with them).

I check most of such schemes in a pc browser, and most often they work in iOS. As for authentication, let me attach a screenshot of what I have at this moment.

That is indeed strange. I really hoped they would fix that in the patch that came since then. Based on my software dev experience in this case only one thing is left to try. I'll give an example below. '@' is replaced with '%40'.
