What EPub reader will work with my MacBook as i've downloaded BookShelf for my Laptop and cannot open to read a book i've paid for.

Where exactly did you buy your book? Paid-for books from the Apple iBookstore can only be read on an iOS device, it says that on every purchase page. The exception would be for a few books where the publisher does not use DRM.

Could you provide a link for the app Bookshelf you are referring to?

For epub books with no DRM, Calibre and Adobe Digital Editions are common readers. Otherwise you might need to use the Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or Googlebooks apps.

The only link i can say and not give you ..is i purchase the bookshelf app from apple store.

The book is The Boy No One Loved, for my wife for her iPad...i decided to buy the bookshelf for my MacBook so i could buy books, and Sync using iTune The Boy No One Loved over to iPad, and few weeks later bought and installed BookShelf for the laptop now when i click on The Boy No One Loved i get the message The document “The Boy No One Loved.epub” could not be opened. BookShelf cannot open files in the “ePUB” format.

And yet it says it supports this format is it just a shelf to store books and does not include a epub reader??? therefore need a e pub reader to open the books???????

I've got Kindle..so how can i sync the book over, so i can read it and any future books i may buy.

Thank you

That is what I would assume by looking at the purchase page and the reviews on that page. Did you see something else there?

Where exactly did you buy The Boy No One Loved? If it was from the Apple iBookstore, then is says on the purchase page that an iOS device is required. There is no app to read it on a Mac. If you bought it elsewhere, tell us where.

When going back to the Apple app site yes i then read after buying the bookshelf "its not a book reader after the advent.. i was thinking when i saw it, it would be just like the Bookshelf built into my wifes iPad...when we bought the book from Apple... i could just read it on my laptop as like the iPad.

no no no..

Calibre enabes you to REFORMAT books of one file type to other file types.

It also strips DRM from purchased books you download... DRM is a security package around a file,, like an envelope around a letter. with steel instead of paper..

Calibre enables you to STRIP- aka REMOVE the drm format so you can read it in it's real format..

So.. you buy a book through google bookstore, or powells dot com and it arrives with the DRM, which is just a security package around the epub fomat. You can then OPEN and read it usng FREE: adobe digital editions.

BY using FREE calibre..

HOWEVER,

for your MBP, or any phone device ..you can also FORMAT the book by using Calibre, to a PDF. ( or other formats..)

AND read it yourself, or have it read to you..

so.

1. get the book.. and HOLD onto it.

2. get CALIBRE;, then use method 3 in this UrL where it says:

Method 3: Use Calibre Plugins to Remove DRM from ePUB

at:
http://www.epubee.com/remove-drm-from-epub-on-adobe.html

TO INSTALL Calibre correctly...

3. THEN GET ADOBE DIITAL EDITIONS at this url:

ww.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/#fp

4. THEN open your DOWNLOADED BOOK Iusing ADOBE DIGIATL EDITIONS.. and it will..then just close ADE...(apple Q)

5. THEN OPEN CALIBRE, and follow METHOD 3 to the file of the download in your ADOBE DIGITAL EDDITIONS files,, in your library on your comp....

6. IT will OPEN the file- (the same book file you just closed using ADE...)

and then...

7. CONVERT it to PDF,,,(or what ever,, kindle or which ever file kind you want.. the little dial on the right spins,,,, and WALA you will see it add the new file format extension on the eright hand / mid way down side of your screen next to BOOKNAME BLABLA, EPUB- PDF..xyz format

NOW you have a pdf version..

next..

8 GO get acrobat reader from Adobe,,, either staright up or through app store,,it's free,,,:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=macintosh&product=10

and you can OPEN your pdf version of your book, and read it using acrobat reader, or preview,, and if you use acrobat, in the menu settings uptop one of them, says read me the pagge, and under that it says read me the entire book,,, so after all that work, you can have the story read to you if you are to wiped out to read it ..lol,,

or get the PHONE version if you want it on an ipdad or iphone,,,this is different version than MBP, or MBA would use,,, ( there is a pro version for iphone.ipad out there too..)
