Gift Card bought in different country

By location I mean physically located. It think in reality the means that the public iP address assigned to the iPod/computer must be one assigned to that country.

I thing that the iPod uses the location information thatyou have in your account to determine the store to use. Yu will have to edit yur account to use an Austria address.

Simply entering an address in Austria will not work. What they want to verify is that you are resident in the country in which you are making a purchase. Very likely the terms under which Apple is allowed (by the rights holders to the media) to make sales do not allow people who live in one country to buy from another, even if there on vacation.

If simply changing information on your account worked we wouldn't see this question here several times a week. The credit card information is how they verify you are serious about being in a country. Some people have credit cards from multiple countries and that works, but even then you have to run your balance down to zero before changing information, so they do not make it easy.

If you have a credit card in Canada for an address there you would need a Canadian gift card. If you go to Austria you would need an Austrian credit card, and address in Austria, and then you would be able to use the Austrian gift card.

As for location, here's what AppleUS says and I expect they are similar for other countries.

"The Services are available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the Services from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance."

You can only purchase items from the iTunes/App store in the country you ar physicaly locate. Also, yur account/payment method must be associated with that country. To us a gift card offically purchased in Austria you have to be located in Austria and use that country's store.

Hello. Just to check if I'm correct on this:

I go to South Africa on holiday, I buy an itunes gift card in SA rand.

I change my address on itunes to my temporary SA address.

I redeem the card on itunes. I buy the music.

I return to Ireland. I reverse my address.

Life goes on.

Am I good ?

Hey! I know that this is an old post, but I found a glitch of using a gift card from a different country in your app store. Just create an account from the country you bought the Gift Card in. At the payment methods, just simply input the gift card code, and some fake details, which then you later wont need anyways, since your are creating this account to be able to use your code. It worked for me perfectly.

Yes. That is OK. Just not that yo will lose any unspent credit when you leave SA
