Best Ipad3 case with keyboard? Can I use a Ipad 2 case for Ipad 3?

I just bought the Ipad3 and I need to buy the case, but all the cases I found are for the Ipad 2 - are the Ipad 2 and 3 the same size? Can I use same case?

Which one is the best case with keyboard for ipad 3?

Thanks!

Zagg makes two keyboard/cases. The Zaggmate by Logitech and the Zaggfolio. The Zaggmate that fit the iPad 2 fits the new iPad. It only covers the front of the iPad. The Zaggfolio does not fit the new iPad. The version that fits is called the Zaggfolio 2 as it is their second version (they didn't make one for the original iPad). So, it's very confusing.

I have the Zaggfolio for my iPad 2 and for my new iPad, black carbon fiber. Can't say enough good about it. I have no difficulty removing my iPad.

I bought the Kensington Folio for my ipad 3. Here is my review from amazon (I am returning it):

"

The only redeeming aspect of this product is that the keyboard is removable and easily synch-able. Everything else is cheap low-grade quality = not worth the sale price, even with amazon prime.

Exterior:

The "pleather" exterior emits an awful off-gassing smell as soon as the package is opened. Will take weeks for the stink to dissapate.

Pathetic elastic strap for inconvenient closing.

When held with the strap the whole contraption feels like it is going to fall apart like a loose booklet

Interior:

Made of cheap thin fabric that attracts fuzz like no other.

ipad holder has no screen protector, which for some reason I thought it did.

Feels like it is filled with some sort of cardboard, thin and flimsy, causes the sides to bend easily with pressure.

The format of the holder makes it incapable of turning, so apps like "draw something" or "words with friends" cannot be played comfortably.

The keyboard arrows do not scroll the screen when in documents or on the web.

I would not reccomend this product. Search for a different one."

I am now looking for a new one that is better quality. I am looking at Zaggfolio (perhaps just the keyboard since the folio is crap) and Belkin folio currently.

I ended up buying the Zagg Folio - on the box it says for Ipad 2 although they claim it works for Ipad 3 as well, which I might agree with, but I would have preferred to receive a folio made specifically for the 3.

The folio makes the Ipad weigh more - I believe it's the keyboard and I wonder if other "folios" are a little lighter.

I bought the "carbon fiber" one, looks OK.

I just wish it was lighter - the whole Ipad thing worked for me because I have to take it with me everywhere and the folio just makes it weight almost like a regular laptop.

I really wanted the aluminum one but apparently it's out of stock everywhere - wonder if that would have been lighter ...

Thanks everyone for all your replies and suggestions!

I just got the Brookstone Leather case with keyboard (783382). While the keyboard seems fine (some of the function and arrow keys don't seem to work in all instances, but, guess that is normal for iPad (iOS?) and bluetooth keyboards, but, the main problem I have is that with the New iPad, the case doesn't close. Not sure if I got a bad one, or, it doesn't work with the New iPad...

(that is my tv remote control being used on top to partially hold the case closed--with the keyboard removed, it seems to close, fine)

I appreciate all the suggestions. The most reviews of cases in one spot I found at cnet at: http://reviews.cnet.com/2300-31747_7-10011594-38.html

The specific link above is to a model that has a strap on the back -- I'm beginning to think I'd get the most functionality by something like this and the Apple Bluetooth keyboard.

I want the strap to be able to hold it in one hand to take pictures. And occasionlly connect the iPad to large monitors for presentation.

Any ideas about that? Or is there another thread about that someone knows about?

I'd also want to be sure that all I/O ports are accessible.

Um...normally I'm real cheap (i.e. economically conscious and like to get 'good value') but for some reason in this case: money is no object. What's the best iPad case in the world?

WITHOUT THE STRAP....These two models look good (?)

I purchased this from Amazon after using my Apple wireless keyboard for a couple of years with my iPad 2, Macbook Pro, Dell laptop, and most recently my new iPad. I love my Apple keyboard and find it very comfortable to use but it's bulky to carry around. It took a bit of time to get used to the smaller form factor of the Logitech ultrathin keyboard cover but after just one day I'm typing this review on it without too much difficulty. These are my first impressions:

Very easy to pair.

Very easy to use both as a cover and a keyboard.

Although I have a Skinit on the back of my iPad and along the screen edges, the ultrathin's magnets are attaching with reasonable strength, just about as my smart cover attaches.

I love the Home key and the Function keys - what a convenient time-saver to have these.

The keyboard needs to be backlit, at least for my use. I'm a proficient typist but not proficient enough to type with my usual accuracy in the dark on a reduced-size keyboard while my spouse is sleeping. The lack of backlighting accounts for the 4 stars instead of 5.

The ultrathin keyboard cover adds some weight and bulk, which I've tried to limit with both my iPads. However, it adds less weight and bulk than the other keyboard options used by my friends and collegues and also unlike those, detaches from the iPad easily when I jsut want to use the iPad as a tablet.

I don't regret my purchase. The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover is almost perfect for both my home and business needs.

I had the same question about my cover when I got an Ipad 3. I had the logitech folding keyboard case for my Ipad 2 that I couldn't do without. Unfortunately the case is just too tight on my Ipad 3! Please logitech make the same case for the Ipad 3!!! I really loved this case. If you sill have an Ipad 2 this it he one!

I think I may pull the trigger on this Ultrathin Keyboard Cover Case otherwise.....I just wish it was full sized. 😐

A year ago I posted and my purchase decision took a twist. I deleted the idea of getting a case-keyboard combo and just got a bluetooth keyboard. I love it! (Photo & info below).

Very light.

Nice keyboard typing feel (and I'm fussy about that)

Illuminated...different that just Backlit. Light shines through the keys and I really like it...never had 'illuminated (a new feature, I think), nor backlit keyboard before.

The other obvious great feature is that with one keystroke it will switch from working with my iPhone, my desktop, and my iPad -- and it does, and I understand this use to be a hassle but this is my first wireless/bluetooth keyboard and I now just take it for granted: To me, this is how it should be.

As far as covers go, I just carry iPad in nice shoulder bag. (I'm now interested in getting a stand and finally saw one that was exciting...like an old fashioned type of 'document holder,' - it seems like it would really not just set the iPad up but allow it to be moved all around...sort of like a ghoosneck lamp.

What I didn't expect but also quickly realized, it's nice the keyboard is not attached to a case...much more flexibility than some keyboard/case combo models...I've done typing while sitting up in bed and the iPad is across the room (I don't see...or need to see the screen)...there is some 'freedom in that.'

Um...I do make check to make sure it's working right. I use Pages for such typing. Synch to iCloud.

Good luck in your choice...I really held out until I saw something that I thought was 'cool,' and I'm glad I did.

So, imo, if you want to take a 'twist' in your purchasing, you should be happy with the

Although...in reality...I'd rather have real functions instead of gold display. Gold looks cool, for sure, but imo some folks get weird with gold plated AK-47's, gold plated toilet seats, gold plated iPads, etc. -- just give me an iPad that doesn't spin it's beachball..

I use the new Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover and I have to say I'm quite impressed for a couple of reasons.

  1. The battery life is simply outstanding! I've haven't had to charge yet (after about a month). Logitech says it will last six months with two hours of use per day. We'll see....
  2. It works with all versions of the iPad except the original.
  3. It's fun to type on! I love using this thing! It makes me want to be a blogger, lol
