Apple TV Drops from Home Sharing

I am having issues with my Apple TV 2 dropping from Home Sharing after roughly 5 minutes of usage. I currently have the latest updates installed for iTunes, Apple TV and my time capsule router. I've done a hard reset on the router, my modem, turned off home sharing and turned off Wi-Fi sync. I've also turned off home sharing on the Apple TV, reset all my computers (two MacBooks and a MacBook Pro all running 10.6.8) and then restarted everything. The system works for roughly five minutes, but then the problem starts up again. The system used to work fine, but I've done a few things recently that may have started the problem, such as installing the newest version of Apple TV, installed iOS five on my phone and purchased two new iPads. I feel confident that the Apple TV is the issue, because the same thing occurs with all three of my computers and airplay and mirroring does not work with my iPhone or iPad's.

I've search the forums for other fixes, but haven't come across anything that seems to work. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to solve this problem?

Thanks,

Ryan

Hello brianyates!

It's very mysterious! I don't understand why you have problem with the Apple Tv and Time capsule.

I think you will have less problems with AirPlay to listen music. Because with AirPlay you controle the music and the playing directly on the iMac or Pc on iTunes and not on the Apple Tv.

I'm near from Paris (30 km) "île de France"

No problems your welcome!

Count me in as well. I don't have 5 or 10 minute problems, but the **** thing only works ONCE per reboot of the computer I connect to. Every morning I have to reboot the Mac in order for my son to watch a show that is stored on my local iTunes library. This worked PERFECTLY for the longest time but has been broken for months. Frustrating doesn't even come close to describing it.

Quitting a reloading iTunes doesn't work - I have to REBOOT THE ENTIRE COMPUTER. Seriously?

Well I can only add my problem to the list.

Bought ATV3 to replace my ATV1

All went ok with installation and set up... till I wanted to access "Home Sharing". All I get is "trying to access Library Folder".. tries for one minute and fails." To cut along story short... (because I have done every conceivable set up, re-start, RESTORE etc on earth...) Apple are saying the ports on my Router need changing. Running an NTL broadband Router that all the devices in the house see ok, two iMacs, two iPads, three iPhones and Two MacBooks.. yeah its the Router Apple!!

After lengthy failed discussions I decided re-attatched my ATV1.. NO PROBLEM! ALL WORKS FINE.

So whether there is a software difference in the ATV3 to the ATV1 that doesn't allow it to see my home folder I don't know. I am going to try a different Router next and eliminate the NTL one... here's hoping.

Well it's not just ATV dropping the connection. On my system, ATV, iPad and iPhone all drop the connection to iTunes. The only way to reconnect is to restart iTunes on the Mac (or specifically relaunch home sharing in iTunes). Apparently the bug is more prevalent when systems are connected over ethernet (like mine) and is due to the way iTunes handles network connections. Systems that connect over wifi are less likely to display the bug because network connections are handled differently.

I experience the same type of issue:

Mac Mini Lion Server

iTunes 10.6.3 (running 24x7)

2 ATV 1080p

2 ATV 720p

I never lose iTunes connection while playing anything on the ATVs. The loss occurs when we go to start using one of the ATV and goto computers to see the Home Share (iTunes) content and it just stays there stating accessing home share...

Until I remote to the server quit iTunes and the relaunch. Once that happens all the contant pops up on the ATV screen. This happens daily.

I have tried a bunch of things but have not put too much time into it as the problem started with the update to iTunes 10.6.3. This is an Apple issue and they must address it in a fix, hopefully soon.

If it does not happen I will call Apple Server support.
