Keyboard dose not disappear IPhone 4s IOS 5.1

Also, I can switch alternate keys like normal, but shift does not respond until after changing keyboards.

I have the same problem. Just started yesterday. I also had just changed my applied password. Iirc someone else had noticed this behavior after changing passwords as well. Look into this apple!

I just did a reset 2 days ago and restored via iCloud. Have not had the keyboard issue since then....

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 4 after 5.1.1 update. My Phone is factory unlocked and i did a legal update through iTunes. I am facing this issue. One my friend did a jailbreak based 5.1.1 update for his iPhone 4 but he doesn't face this issue.

Once the keyboard is open i need to open some app and close it to come hide the keyboard. I am wondering how Apple is not releasing any patch/update for this issue.

i am having same problem with my iPhone 4s 5.1.1. I notice when i am using vpn and vpn fail to connect this problem happen again. i do not know what relation this two thing do have but i exam again and again and im sure it is about vpn in my phone. my question is do any of you guys using vpn and having this problem?

I can confirm that, it indeed happens again since months because I set a wrong VPN hostname (on purpose) and it fails to connect!

What kind of VPN settings do you use?

My settings:

Type: PPTP

RSA SecurID: off

Encryption: maximum

Send all traffic

Proxy: off

Account & password are saved too.

Maybe we can find a pattern.

my vpn settings is same as you; except my encryption is none

i change my vpn type to l2tp and it happens again it seems no mather what settings our vpn have if it fail to connect this problem will happen !

at least we know what cause the problem and we can manage it.

and one more things; guys dont restor your phone. restoring dont solve the problem at all

I have filed a bug report at https://bugreport.apple.com I suggest others to do the same.

You can find your iOS version and build number in Settings > General > Info. Be as complete and clear as possible, with steps to reproduce the problem. And after submit, view the report, scroll down to Rank, set Rank to at least Important and tap submit (at bottom).

I had a similar problem. After moving to the spotlight search screen, the keyboard does not disappear. I tried the magic solution to most common problems in iOS, which is force restart my phone.

Force restart is basically is the most effective solution to many software bugs in Apple devices. This is my personal view of course.

To do a force restart, hold the "Sleep / wake " button down along with the "home" button. Keep both buttons held down together for around 10-15 seconds. The phone shuts down abruptly and then restarts automatically. At this stage release both buttons. The phone may take a while to reboot, but when it does.. the problem is solved.

It may sound absurd but it's definitely worth a try

yes restarting will solve the problem.but it is not just random problem it is a bug (error in os coding)

so you restart the phone and happy then you want to connect to VPN and it fails to connect and when you go

to spotlight and back the problem is back so restarting does not solve the problem it just temporary postpone it to next VPN failure. but yes after it happens you must restart your phone or other similar ways

believe us we try every ways (power off/on , restart ,force restart, restore with backup, restore without backup)no mather what we do if VPN fails to connect to server it will happens; this bug needs apple iOS teem attention

I don't have this problem in iOS 6, I tested with the failing VPN connection which did trigger the bug in iOS 5.1.1.

Time will tell if the bug returns.
