If you didn't buy the iPad in the last couple of weeks, then it's an iPad 2 (or an iPad 1 if it lacks cameras). If you purchased in the last couple of weeks, your order/invoice information should tell you what you bought if for some reason you're confused.

Regards.

Hey guys,

I gotta say, the model number for my new iPad (bought it yesterday) is in fact the one listed for 32 GB Black iPad.

However, as I was checking iTunes in the Cloud, under my acct in iTunes, in order to see associated devices,

my new iPad was listed indeed, but as Ipad 2 !!! Now, why the heck would it do that?

Perhaps, there is no appropriate designation for the new iPad, or this is really an iPad 2 I was sold, ;(

Again, don't get me wrong, I like iPad 2, but I do not want to believe I paid 599 + tax for an iPad 2, while @ the local Apple store, asking for 3rd gen iPad...

Please check your devices under iTunes and lmk what designation do you have (considening you do have this so-called iPad 3rd gen).

All help is appreciated,

Weird, I was just searching up how to tell a difference between the 2& 3 and I stumbled upon this page.

After reading all the comments I'm still confused.

Like you said POWDERSLICER, I checked my iTunes account on my computer and looked over my backups and it said iPad 2.

But it clearly said iPad 3 on the box, and I had to replace my iPad since I dropped it and cracked the screen. I just got the replacement yesterday and I don't have a 2 to compare it with.

But I'm pretty convince it is a 3, since talking to the apple rep on phone, he referred this product "the new" iPad.

if you doubt and want to know what version is your Ipad just check directly with apple.com. look at the serial numbers on the box (you also can find the serial number inside Ipad setting) go to http://www.apple.com/support/ go to self service and klick on "check your service & support coverage" enter your serial number then you can see the version of your Ipad at the website.

EveryiPad.com suggests that order number MC979LL/A was assigned to the newer configuration of the 16 GB white iPad 2 (iPad2,4) after the 32 GB and 64 GB models were dropped, not the original 16 GB white iPad 2 (iPad 2,1).
