how to tell which version of ipad I have?

I would like to know which version of the ipad I have and how to tell if its ipad2 or ipad3 ? I offten get this question but not sure how to properly answr it.

If you didn't buy the iPad in the last couple of weeks, then it's an iPad 2 (or an iPad 1 if it lacks cameras). If you purchased in the last couple of weeks, your order/invoice information should tell you what you bought if for some reason you're confused.

The model number is on the back on the iPad. The MD numbers are sales and configuration numbers, not model numbers, and can vary from area to area (as for instance with the language of the packaging) where the model number usually does not. But you can comment to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:
