Lion 10.7.3 and SPSS 20

Hello,

I try to use SPSS 20 on my MacBook Air (2011) because I need it for university. It's a student version, so I won't get support from IBM.

I have no problems to install and register the program. But when I try to open the program, SPSS won't open correctly. The program shows up at the dock but it hangs after some seconds.

I tried a lot, check permissions (everything was fine as fare as i can see) and found out, I can start it correctly with the sudo command. I use "sudo /Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/20/SPSSStatistics.app/Contents/MacOS/stats".

This solution works for me, but I would prefer to find the problem and solve it.

btw I have the newest version of Java for Lion.

Any idea/help for me?

Best regards

Macbook (Alu), Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Hey!

I have the same problem and tried your solutions, but nothing worked:

I tried the sudo thing: doesnt work (spss starts, but then nothing happens)

I tried to remove java 7 and reinstall java 6: didnt help

now i reinstalled java 7 and still have no clue how to start spss 20. i have a uni version, mac os x 10.7.5.

Is the problem only with mac os x 10.7.5?

When I disable the wifi connection, spss starts, but as long as i need an internet connecetion for my license, it doesnt help eighter...

any suggestions?

thx!!!

I have the same issue too 😟

On a MBA 2012 13", OS X 10.8 the stupid SPSS 20 just won't run.. Mine is also from the university. Everything with the installation went fine but when I tried to open it, the only thing that happened was the appearance of the small IBM SPSS License "window"... and that's where it's stuck 😟

I tried the different Java versions, neither works for me, I tried to open it form the Guest user account, no luck there either. The only thing I haven't tried is the sudo command because I don't really know how to do it...

I would really appreciate any help, I have an exam in two weeks so i reaaally need to get it to work!
