PLZ help me w/ battery problem

ok i bought my ipod mini last may. 4 the past few months, after i charge it 4 4 hrs, ill listen to maybe 3 songs, and a 45 min long podcast and then it dies w/ the "battery out of power, pls connect ipod 2 pwr". i brought it in 2 da apple store, they tested it and sed it worked 17 hrs. i continued to have the same problem. i have called them on the phone and sum1 told me that i cant exchange or return it after 14 days.
the warranty only works that if they find a prob, theyll fix it or replace ur ipod.
i relly am losing patience. i h8 the apple co. their products r cheap, i wasted 200 dollars on this and it wont work. dont they realize the ipod minis have so many problems- they stopped making them.
i only have 3 months left on my warranty- PLZ HELP ME!!!

"sum1 told me that i cant exchange or return it after 14 days"

Correct.

"the warranty only works that if they find a prob, theyll fix it or replace ur ipod"

Correct again. What else would you expect?

"dont they realize the ipod minis have so many problems- they stopped making them."

They stopped manufacturing them because they introduced the nano to replace the mini, not because they "have so many problems".

Run this battery test.

Jeff Bryan is right… absolutly right… But, let me give you my experience… I had, and I wrote this post two days ago, a big Battery problem… I repeat : When I inadvertendly updated my iPod Mini first generation into the new one (1.4, then 1.4.1 in order to correct the bug), my iPod started to bug… The bug was : after 30 minutes, or 1 seconds (as soons as I turned it on), or 10 minutes, — in few words it depended on the iPod —, it cuts violently off… Imagine my head hearing a sudden cut-off whereas you were listening a The Ruts "Jah war", or the Fall "New face in ****" (that were my face which was in ****, in fact), or a Joy Division's "The Kill", or a Clap your Hand say Yeah… I don't know… Imagine my face… Well I posted plenty of posts in French Mac discussions, then in Apple Discussions, in order to find solutions… I received great advices from for instance Jeff Bryan, and of course french iPod users… But nobody understood why the update software was the origin of the battery problem… I called Apple France, they answered to me that there was not a Battery problem (they were right because before updating, the iPod used to run for 7 hours)… They adviced me to reset, reset, untill it corrects the bug… That I did… But, in fact, I wrongly reseted… and I was able to correct it… yesterday, I was pretty upset seeing all around me with their Nano, their Video, or their Photo, OR their MINI∞ whatever… I reseted one more time and suddenly, a page with all languages (the famous first page you have when you just formated it), which meant that I correctly reseted… I was very ashamed because, till yesterday I wrongly reseted it… Now… after a little bug, it works… I succeeded to get over the third (because after updating it into the 1.4, 1.4.1, it cut off after a third iPod listenning… and even though I went back with the 1.1, then the 1.3, it cut off after a third iPod listenning… What a stress !!)… So if you are sure that this is not a Battery problem, I mean if before this problem you usually had no problem battery, I advice you to reset it carefully…
I would like to thank Jeff Bryan for his great advices…

1. When you restore it, the opening page is the available language like "English", "Chinese," Japanese", or "French"… That means that you have lost everything until your music… By reseting it carefully and correctly, you're supposing to have lost all your parameters (settings is probably the best word) (like Clock, click (I don't know the correct word in English), shuffle, repeat, backlight… I mean all the settings you have done… By doing it, your iPod has been reseting into its original setting… It normally works that's why Apple sometimes refuses to repair because in its support pages Apple explains how to reset it… But in fact, reseting is not as easy as we could think… For a big bug, you have to lose all the settings… After calling back Apple to confirm that my iPod is now back to use (I am happy), Apple answers me that reseting has cancelled the bug that iPod has saved into his memory (If can say that)…
I don't remember of the two last questions You asked me… I will be back in few minutes

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

When they ask you to press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, you are to press it simultaneously instead of in the same time… Not because it doesn't work, but, it seems to work partially… I tried and tried unsusccessfully, and when I did it simultaneously I heard a strange noise such as schtiiiiiiiiishhhh… then the opening page (the available foreign languages) appears, and so on…
The only problem is : the Apple Support is a bit terse : it doesn't really explain how to do it successfully… this is my reproach, but is it easy to explain in details how to repair iPod, how to restore it successfully, how to reset it ? Fortunately, some mac magazines helps us to repair it too…

i bought my mini in december 2004...can u help me plz? i'll have an attack soon...[anyway, i cant tell my dad that the ipod it's not working, he's gonna kill me XD]

I've bought mine in december 20004 too…
everybody

But when you're reseting, do you have the famous first page with the language selection ?
I don't know why but it suddenly shut off today whereas I was bac to the Fondation Cartier for the opening day… Ashamed !! closed to me there was a man with his sony MP3 player… He smiled to me because he saw me furiously looking at my mini… I reseting abruptly because I was furious… I reseted, reseted, and reseted, only the click was lost… I reseted again, and suddenly I lost all the settings… Now I am testing it again… I turned it on at 22:15… now, it is 23:27… which means 1:15… critic time… It has just gone the third of the battery over… I will tell you the result tomorrow… Tuesday I had 5:50 hours of listenning but i turned it off…
But I think I'd rather change the battery myself than battle as I am doing now…

what I have done to reset it totally is : I press play in order to listen it (after pluging it… but I did it without pluging it… the problem is : I'm so scared to have a folder with an exclamation point such as my other mini), and reset it rapidly… I did it twice, and It worked…
but let me forward you to this thread "battery and blank screen"… found in the Using iPod mini forum… in Jeff Bryan's reply you will find a link… I read it and believe me : we seem not have any battery problem… I will try re-calibrating it… but read it carefully and tell me what you all think about it…
