xcode 3.2.6 installation failed?

Yes I believe it is the update referred to in the CNET link above. I found this update available in the Software Update program, it was less than 1MB. It installed and restarted the system, afterwards I was able to install Xcode successfully.

It's working for me after installing the update for Software Installer too.

Guess someone found a bug somewhere.

If nothing works, what I did was set the date on my Macbook to January 1st, 2012. The Xcode certificate has expired, and this worked for me. Good luck.

This worked for me too. I changed my date to 1/31/12 (my certificate was expired too, I confirmed the error in my logs).

I had Xcode 4.3.2 installed. I uninstalled Xcode 4.3.2 to install Xcode 3.2.6. After installing 3.2.6, I will re-install 4.3.2. Apparently this is required if you wish to run both versions of Xcode side by side on Lion. I am following the instructions found here:

I just found this thread, and did exactly the same. Just got the MBP yesterday, the IT guy told me it was up to date, but I think that means he ran software update once. 🙂

I found the outstanding Software Installer update, installed just that, rebooted, and now am 24 minutes from having Xcode installed from the 3.2.6 download.

Had this issue on a client's system (that was already on 10.6.8), repaired permissions and then was able to install perfectly fine. No need to re-install the OS!

I know this will sound like an odd solution, but I guarantee you it works, because it worked for me.

Instead of reinstalling ALL of Snow Leopard, I simply changed the system date to 1/1/12, a date when my certificate was NOT expired, and then hit install.

It did not encounter the error message again.

My install would go fine until about 3 minutes left, when I'd get an error saying I had to quit iTunes. This confused me because I didn't have iTunes running.

I restarted, tried K T's advice and ran Activity Monitor, which showed that iTunes Helper was running. I killed that and then did the install. It worked.

I got the same error as you ( but 2 minutes left).

However, instead of restarting, I ran the Activity Monitor. Using the Activity Monitor, I quit the iTunes Helper process and the Xcode installer continued on. The installation was successful.

Updating the software installer solved this for me as well. I had automatic updates active but I had to do the Software installer seperately.
