ipad locked on picture of usb cable pointing towards itunes icon

I opened up my ipad and there was a message to update the iOS, which I stupidly did. I say stupidly, because everything was working well before I did the update. Immediately after updating, the screen went black, then the apple icon came on, immediately followed a picture of a usb-cable pointing up towards an itunes icon. I cannot get rid of this picture from my screen, nothing is working. I have pressed the home button, the on-ff button and both of them at the same time, and still I cannot get rid of the itunes picture with the cable. My ipad was fully charged before I did the update, so it's not like the appliance has run out of battery. I have plugged it in anyway. Still not luck. Please someone.... what shall I do to get my ipad working?
