iMessage is slow, receiving messaged 12 hours late

For the past 3 or 4 weeks mine and some of my friends have been noticing problems with iMessage. We will send an imessage and either it will not send, or it will claim that it was delivered when in fact it was not. These messages do eventually get through, but normally seem to come through at 4-5am which is incredibly annoying. I assume this is a problem with the apple servers, as text messages work fine. All other forms of data transfer are absolutely fine too. This is very frustrating as i purposefully got a small number of texts on my phone contract as I assumed i would be able to use imessage for all my messaging needs. I have a iPhone 4, with the latest update (5.1 i think).

Does anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?

Ah i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one. I have just had a thought of what might be causing the problem. A couple of weeks ago I signed on to join the messages beta for mountain lion. My problems seemed to have started then. Do you think this could have caused the problem? I have since unistalled the messages app from my mac, but the problem remains. I assume that this is due to the fact that my apple id is still registered as part of the beta.

You’re not alone, sorry to say I have no solution only reassurance that it's not just you. I have 10 or more friends with iPhone all complaining of the same thing. Messages taking anywhere from 30m to 24 hours to come through. I've missed so many notification with iMessages coming through late that I've turned it off. even with myself and the other half on solid Wifi networks I don’t get a delivered or read confirmed. I can send another it'll do the same, send another a few minutes later and they all come pilling through. It's needs looking at and an official support bulletin put out, I can’t believe how many people it’s affecting and how little I’m reading about it.

I got sick of being woke up at 6am from iMessages sent at 6pm the previos day that it's ll turned off now. just crazy..
