How do I get PDF Files on my iPad?

I do have a lot of medical books as PDF files. How do I get them on my iPad? How can I read them with iBooks? I tried to copy and paste like I do it with photos, but the iPad did not take the files.

If they don't have any DRM on them then you should be able to add them to your computer's iTunes via File > Add To Library, and you can then try syncing them to the iBooks app on your iPad via the Books tab on the right- hand side of iTunes when you've selected the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes. Is that what you've tried already and it didn't work ?

Sync with iTunes.

Essentially drag your .pdf file to iTunes. It will be placed into the iBooks section and will be synced to the iPad on the next sync if you have 'sync all books' selected.

There are also several other good pdf editors/viewers for the iPad. I rarely use iBooks for PDFs because I find GoodReader to be more suitable for me. YMMV.

This will not work if the files are protected via DRM. You would need a reader that supports the form of DRM used by the files.

You copy and paste to get photos onto the iPad? That's really different, to say the least.

As for moving pdf's to the iPad, well ... do it any way you like

  • Email them as attachments
  • Drop them into DropBox
  • Use EverNote
  • Use GoodReader
  • Sync them using iTunes file transfer feature
  • and etc., etc., etc.

There are all sorts of options, play around and use the ones you like the best.
