iPad 2 Backup Question

I would like to do scheduled backups of my iPad 2. Being a Windows gal, I need advice! What type of backup unit do I need? I have 2 external hard drives but assume I need new cord to hook up to the iPad? What apps do you suggest I use if I want to backup my apps and OS? This is just in case of a crash.

Thank you

I have the cord in front of me. This came with the iPad 2 direct from Apple. The plug end is solid; nothing can pull apart. The other end is square wth a piece sticking out that has 2 long round connectors. It, too, is a solid piece with nothing to come part.

So ... where can I find the correct cord with the USB end ... OR ... where can I buy a flash drive for the iPad 2 to backup to?

Does anyone have a link? I searched and found some cords but want to be sure I buy the right one. I'll list 3 examples that seem similar but vary in price from $3.99 to $22.75. Do I want the charger type, sync type or another not listed?

Thank you

Ok, I went to a couple of the links provided -- thanks, again -- and if I read right and understood it ... using iTunes to backup I can backup everything and not certain things like using iCloud. I hook up the USB cord (still didn't try to connect) to th iPad and my netbook (or another hard drive), go to iTunes, and back it all up. I hope the backup setting isn't hidden 🙂

Now, I'm wondering ...

how long this backup might take

will I have OS issues backing up to my Windows netbook

do I need to install/modify anything on external hard drive

am I better off putting backups on Win netbook or external HDD (I'm thinking external due to size of HDD)

or

is there any Flash drive that will hold my iPad backups? In my mind I picture the Flash drive going into a USB port, and the USB cord doing the same, so I'd need ... an adapter? Cord goes into adapter, adaper goes into Flash drive...
