Mac Mail will not work ?

My Mac mail stopped working, I have tried repeatedly to delete and set-up the account with no success.

I receive the message either my name or password is incorrect, But they are correct and work on my iphone and in Icloud.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this ? I would like to have my Mail for .mac work again. 😕

I think they're slowly nudging people to switch, .mac & MobileMe are going away about June/July, may as well set it up now.

I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.

You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.

iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...

IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

•Server name: imap.mail.me.com

•SSL Required: Yes

•Port: 993

Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

•Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

•Server name: smtp.mail.me.com

•SSL Required: Yes

•Port: 587

•SMTP Authentication Required: Yes

Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

•Password: Your iCloud password

BDAqua:

I tried the keychain thing, I erased all profiles in there for the IMAP connection, then went back to mail and it requested to re-enter the password and still didn't read the server.. Again, I really appreciate your help, but this is starting to look like a problem with my account and the Apple servers.. It's frustrating though that Apple doesn't have a server status page that will let users know what's going on.. 😟

I had seen that website 🙂 I just meant that would give a real status, not send people to the mental institution because only the date changes LOL

Ok, I replied here because just like you said I was going to open my own question when I noticed..... THAT IT STARTED WORKING.. on its own.. I didn't change anything from the last tid bit you gave me, not even a restart sooo I think I was right and it was going to resolve itself...

That it doesn't connect has happened to me before when Apple is doing major changes, it usually fixes itself in a couple of weeks but this one was more than a week so I freaked out 😀

Thank you so much for your help BDAqua, and I hope this thread helps someone thru more steps than the original post went thru 😉

Honestly, I have found the Mac Mail client to be so unreliable as to be almost unusable. Both before and after Lion. It's amazingly frustrating for me. Sometimes it works great. Sometimes it doesn't send, but it receives. Sometimes it sends, but doesn't receive. Things I've sent, magically appear in my Draft box. I delete them out of draft and they reappear. When I'm composing an email, the little font color selector will change text to white when select black (a commonly known bug that doesn't get fixed). Today, my mail won't read in, so I had to log on to iCloud and read it there - but that doesn't always work either. I know about "rebuild" and "connection doctor." Sometimes doing those things helps, sometimes they don't. Soooooooo frustrating.
