iCloud sync between Pages iPad and Pages Desktop

Hi,

I am trying to sync pages documents between my Pages Desktop and my Pages for the iPad, in both directions.

If, from desktop I save a Pages document in the Library>Mobile Documents>Documents, it appears nicely my Pages for the iPad using iCloud.

I can open it, edit it, and save it. It goes straight to the iCloud again.

But then, I can't keep editing in Pages desktop. The original .pages document no longer exists.

So my question is: is it possible to start a Pages document in Desktop, continuing editing it in Pages for iPad, and then back to desktop to keep working on it? Seamlessly through iCloud of course?

Thank you,

Ignacio

Hi Peggy,

I checked and I do have version 4.2 I just finished talking to an apple tech and they said that the icloud is not working the way it's supposed to: "Changes you make on one device are updated on all your devices." are not actually taking place. In fact, they seem to still be figuring out how it works in the first place. So, if you somehow have managed to sync between Mac, Icloud, and Iphone...in other words, if the changes I make on my phone ALSO change the original document on my computer then I would love to hear how to do it. At this point, I can only place documents on the cloud and play with them on my phone. The changes I make on the phone are also reflected on the cloud docs. But, I still have to download this document to my computer, which has the same name as the original document, that can lead to some confusion as to which is which.

Thanks for any help and for replying.

Does it have anthing to do with uploading new versions of Keynote and Numbers, that I never use?

Okay, so I have Mountain Lion and checked for updates. Installed Pages and checked for updates. Activated the connection to my iCloud account. Moved files onto the iCloud window within Pages. Opened iCloud.com and...nothing.

Meanwhile, installed Pages onto my iPhone and iPad, ensured that my iCloud was set to sync Documents and Data and that Pages > Use iCloud was active. Opened these and....nothing.

Manually dragged files from my Mac to iCloud.com and, moments later, they showed up on my iDevices. Set these into folders of my choosing and these changes were echoed on iCloud.com.

Checked Pages on my Mac and no changes there.

Created a Test doc on my Mac's Pages, had to it save to iCloud. It shows it sync'd in Pages, but has yet to appear on my iCloud.com or on my iDevices.

Hmm. Clearly, reading the above I am not alone and something isn't right. Apple really should ensure something works as advertised before touting is so loudly - but was ever thus.

In the interim, I know I can rely on my iDevices and iCloud.com to play well - but will likely go back to OpenOffice and Dropbox as free, working sync options on my Mac.

My problem: iPad Pages won't sync with iCloud

If I created a document in Pages on my iPad, it went to iCloud fine and then to my computer.

If I created a document on my computer and saved to iCloud, it would show in Pages on my computer and iPad but would not download the document and sync to iPad. I could not open any of them on iPad.

All of my hardware is up to date with all OS software, but I still was having issues.

My eventual solution:

  1. I opened the documents in Pages on my computer, and copied and pasted the contents into NEW documents in Pages and saved them to my Desktop.
  2. In a web browser, I logged into iCloud and clicked on iWork, and then Pages.
  3. In the upper right hand corner of iWork is a pull-down menu with the option to upload documents.
  4. I uploaded my new documents to iWork, and the documents appeared and downloaded immediately to my iPad and into my computer's iCloud folder. Problem solved.

It is a bit annoying to have had to complete the extra step of uploading through the web browser, but honestly, I'm just happy it worked.

I hope this helps others troubleshoot their iPad/iCloud/Mac document syncing issues.
