Safari will not play Youtube videos!!!

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz Imac and I am running Snow Leoprad 10.6.8. The problem I am having is that since I recently uipdated Safari, I cannot run Youtube videos. Every time I try watching one, the page crashes. I know I am not alone here and I am surprised Apple has not approached this situation yet. I have tried running youtube videos on Firefox and have had no problems doing so, thus I figure it must be Safari. I've tried running safari in 32 bit mode and that has not helped. I have emptied the cache and reset Safari as well but still no go. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

You're probably having the same problem I had, easy fix. You Tube has you on the 5HTML experiment and you have no idea and in no way gave them the ok to do so. You'll have to log into your account and uncheck the box at the bottom of your profile, something similar to that. You may have to search around but google it if you can't find it. You Tube videos went immediately back to playing perfectly.

Thanks for the link, leejbarker32! I found that I was NOT in the HTML5 trial, so I opted to be IN the trial, and what do you know, I'm able to play YouTube video again. The strange thing is, I didn't have a problem with YouTube until earlier today! Almost sounds like someone out there is picking us off, one by one on a daily basis or something! Thanks again!

I had the same trouble. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it would. What I did was hold my mouse over the youtuve video screen and I saw 'chose previous player" and i clicked that, and the video started working. I also un-instaslled the html5 plugin and then re-iinstalled it, and it seemed to work ok. i hope this helps

Did all you guys check for outdated extensions?

The problems seemed to be HTML5 related - reverting back to Flash Player (by opting out of Youtube's HTML5 trial) - yes, kind of a "fix".

But since I want to avoid Flash as much as possible, I checked the Extensions (Safari - Preferences - Extensions) - they were outdated > updated all 3 (AdBlock, Youtube5 (was never enabled), and ClickToFlash)...

voilà - everything works again 🙂

Not sure which outdated extension caused the problem (i guess AdBlock, since Youtube5 wasn't activated) - but i'm pretty sure it was the fault of an extension - not Google/Youtube.

Just updating the extensions also fixed it on my other Mac.

Had the same problem - flash videos were not showing on Safari, snow leopard 10.6.8 - and I solved it!!!

By un-enable or uninstall an extension that I have called Google Disconnect 1.1 (this extension claims to "stop google from tracking the webpages you go to". Vualah...

ℹMaybe I'm coming a bit off the current topic, my problem wasn't with Youtube videos but with macrumors.com videos and some other pages. Youtube was and still is running fine. Hope I help someone any way.😊
