syncing iphone to new computer without losing contacts

im trying to sync my phone to my new computer without losing all my contacts.

i dont care about the photos or music, ive got all the music on my computer anyway..... and the photos i can recover from the phone without syncing.... but as soon as i do the sync its going to clear all my contacts and and start fresh, as there is no history of my phone on my new computer.

ive gone from a broken pc ( its dead, so i cant get the old itunes history) , and now i have a MAC, and im worried that when i say YES to the sync its going to wipe the phone clean and sync it with a contact file that is blank.....

so is there a way i can get the contacts off my phone before i do the sync so i don't lose them.... PLEASE HELP ME... THANKS

- Authorize Your New iTunes

- Back Up Your iPhone

- Send Your Contacts to the Cloud

- Decide What to Sync

- Sync Your Old iPhone with your New Computer

- Reorganize Your Apps

- Re-Download Your Contacts If Necessary

@diver0730, try backing up to to iCloud if you are worried about it erasing everything. If you'd prefer to backup via iTunes however, the article shown above also shows how to copy your music, movies pictures ect off your device onto your computer before syncing it with iTunes.

Would I follow the same procedure to sync my iPhone to my work computer? It was first synced with my ex's Mac and I would like to keep my contact list. I don't care much at all about the music nor the aps, just the contacts.

You'll have to repeat the procedure everytime you switch your computer.

You can also sync to iCloud if you want to keep your contacts:

Hi,

my dad recently recieved an iPhone as a work phone due to him starting a new job.

He already has an iPhone from his old job but the phone was not synced to our home computer.

We are trying to transfer his contacts to his new iphone and saw your tips at the beginning of this discussion.

I have disabled auto-sync but iTunes still trys to sync it as a new iPhone and when i right click on it the option 'back-up' does not appear.

I would be very greatful if you can help us out.
