iPad buttons no workee w/Otterbox defender case

I have an issue with the iPad and the defender series otter box: none of my buttons (power/volume) are accessible when the otter box is installed. Mind you they all still work, they're just too far in the case to be pushed.

I've been looking for an app to control the iPad 2 volume and power and have come up with nothing yet. I have successfully created macros for my PC to control power and there is an icon for volume already...anyone seen something like this for the iPad 2? Can I create macros on my own to control functions like this? I'm an apple newbie and have no idea of how to manipulate 'genius-speak' into my will. You apple people are so smart and I simply can't keep up.

Right now as it stands, with the otter box on the iPad, the volume is all the way up and I have no way of toggling the power off; the iPad simply sits on until it powers itself off. DOH!

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Since my last posting I've found some new alternatives for those that are interested.

Logitech makes a Bluetooth keyboard specifically for the iPad which has solved both of my issues; volume and power are both on the keyboard and work like a champ.

I looked at the Logitech Keyboard Case for iPad 2 (by ZAGG) which serves as a keyboard and metal case, but it wouldn't work for my purposes since I have the Otterbox case on. I then looked the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for iPad 2. This one seems to fit my needs perfectly; in fact I am writing this message using it.

My volume and locking need ahve been satisfied.

Just FYI for anyone that is interested.

I am using my "new iPad" right now to type this response and my iPad is covered by the Otterbox Defender case that you do not seem to be able to get the iPad buttons to function with.

Are you absolutely certain that you have covered the iPad correctly? Granted - using the home button takes a little getting used to, but every other button works just like it did when the iPad was not in the case. The home button takes just a little more accuracy (hitting the button in the center works best), but the response is great for me - the volume rocker and the power button included.

If the home button works then I wonder if there is an issue with the case itself.

Frankly, I am amazed how responsive the buttons are on this case. I thought twice about purchasing this one because I was worried that the built in screen protect would take something away from the new retina display and while it does change the view slightly, the screen is still amazing - for me anyway - with this screen protector on it.

It is a bit of a pain disassembling this case, but have you tried taking the iPad out of the case and then replacing it in the case just to be sure?

I don't have to do anything close to pulling back the rubber to access the buttons. The buttons on the iPad are directly under the rubber parts of the case and they work amazingly well on mine.

Thank you for the ideas. I did try disassembling and reassembling as you suggested. I am simply not getting the iPad aligned with the buttons...

That being said, I LOVE THIS CASE. Even with this minor issue, I feel that my iPad is very well protected, plus I have a bonus stand anywhere I go.

I guess my posting is titled in such a way that gives the Otterbox a bad name...that was not my intent at all. I wrote this posting at 4 am whilst I was tired and wanted to figure out if I could write my own batch files to power off the iPad. I must submit my most humblest apologies to Otterbox since it looks like (per the title) that I am bashing the case.

Perhaps I should re-post without my qualifier of why I want to create a power off app (batch...whatever it is in appl-speak).

This case is AWESOME and I am so glad to have it. Thank you Otterbox for making such an awesome product!

I did not take your post as a bash on the case at all. I knew what you were actually trying to do, but I thought that maybe a little more fidgeting with the case would help.

I have no knowledge of or expericne with Macros - but I do use the Otterbox Case and that is what caught my attention. Reposting as you suggested would not be a bad idea - IMO.

I bought the Otterbox Defender case for my new iPad (3rd gen) as well and the buttons work flawlessly. The case protects my iPad very well in the tough enviornment that I work in. The only problem I have experienced is getting my Square card reader to fit into the headphone jack to accept CC payments with the case on. I have to remove the case to use the card reader which can be a pain. I can live with it though.

There is a big difference between the ipad 1 and ipad 2. The 1 is much thicker. There is far less diference between the 2 and new ipad (3).

I just bought an otterbox for my new Ipad and it fits perfect but the home button is a little stiff. I expect that will ease up with usage, but the protection it provides is well worth it especially for a neurotic like me LOL
