Black screen on ipad 2?

You are a god among men!!! Woke up with blank screen of death, saw your suggestion, I dropped my ipad a couple times.. Works like a charm..I think even the 3g is working better now..Thanks ever so much!

Thank you JohnofScott! Sounded ridiculous but it worked! I really wish Apple would comment. We brought the iPad to the store and the best they could do was offer to sell us a new iPad at full retail. Has the problem reoccurred? We are very tempted to trade in now with Apple for another IPAD now that we get some value for the IPAD 2. Hopefull Apple does a more thorough check with older IPADs before recirculating.

That was the most stupid suggestion that i ever heard to fix the i pad problem, but with all that it worked and my i pad start working again, thank you very much, this saved me a lot of headache and money.

Per all the comments, this seems to be quite common AFTER upgrading the OS. I tried everything and based on the feedback I tired giving it a subtle jolt with my knee....right in the center AND on the back side (obviously). This indeed worked after 3 taps.

I DO NOT recommend "dropping" your unit on any type of carpeted floor...or any other surface. You can control how hard you tap the unit with your knee. Now, what causes this issue? Anyone have any clue whatsoever as to why the display just goes blank? Especially after an OS update.

I would like to thank you! I have given up on my girls' iPad. I see gray screen when i click on the Home button. i tried dropping in on the carpet floor 4x and oh my gosh to my amazement, I saw the Home Screen that I screamed so loud. Thank you thank you thank you. -mwh

I tried gingerly dropping mine a couple times and the screen would kind of flicker on and then go back to black, so I got frustrated and slapped the screen, which, to my surprise, fixed it, haha. Thanks for the unconventional advice 😉

So it seems it's a misconnected screen ribbon cable.

Seems to me The method could work or disconnect other cables also.

Looking for something a bit more "logical" but opening an iPad to push back the disconnected cable is not so easy. Have to apply heat...

Amazing. I tried resetting the device several times by holding down both the home and lock buttons for ~10 seconds or until the device restarted-NOTHING.

Then, I dropped the iPad 2 from about 2 feet onto a rug on top of a carpeted floor and viola!-it Works again!!!!

Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.

1. You must press the Sleep and Home button together

2. For about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo

Bring it to your nearest Apple shop and let them look at it.

I am having the same issue, When I plugged it into my computer it said its locked with a passcode and coan't turn on.

I keep pushing home and power at the same tiem and its not working

Not the same issue at all. Plug it in to iTunes and restore it to factory settings.
