How to Scroll Through Font Types?

I just tried it and at first I could use the up and down arrows and the selection in TextEdit would rapidly change, showing the selected font. And now it doesn't. The arrow keys seem to only apply to the documet window, not the font dialog.

This is strange. I have no answer, but I did see the behavior you want, and now I cannot duplicate it. If I figure it out, I'll be back.

Got it.

Use Format > Font > Show Fonts to bring up the Fonts dialog.

Select your text. It will be highlighted in Blue. The selected font will be highlighted in Gray in the Fonts dialog.

Click the titlebar of the Fonts dialog. The highlight in the Document window should turn Gray and the selected font in the Fonts dialog should be highlighted in Blue. That's your clue that the Fonts dialog now has the keyboard.

Now you should be able to use the up and down arrows to rapidly scroll through the fonts and see the changes in the Document window.

At least, it seems to working repeatably for me.

Thanks, Jim. I'm gratified that you found it just 2 days after I posted it, when "sicjoy" has been waiting almost exactly two years. Nice to know that Google found it easily for you.

You can also type the first letters of the font name to jump to that font. Like, quickly type "cou" and Courier will be selected.
