Can't see, quickview or open email attachments...

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

Are you talking about the Mail app or emails through your browser?

Forgive me for asking - but are you opening the email and trying to tap the pdf icon in the open email itself? You are not trying to do this from the messages list on the left side of the mail app - correct? You have to have the email open in order to open the attachment.

Have you tried quitting the mail app and restarting the iPad?

Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus ➖ sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

You don't see the attachment in the email like this? This is a Word doc but they all work the same way.

If it is only a single paged document then there will be no icon; the document will already be open and 'within' the actual email.

I have the same problem since purchase. I am planning to contact Apple support.

Same here, shows email as attachment via ios built in mail app as imap account, can see via browser & open attachments, but can see jack on ipad mail, even if shows paperclip, bug for sure.

Out of curiosity, are you guys using yahoo as your mail provider with this bug?

How about something really crazy and unheard of?

I have two email accounts with Google Mail. Both are the only ones set up in the Mail app inside my iPad2. One would load everything: .jpeg, .docx, .pdf, and everything. The other would not.

I tried hard reset multiple times, deleting both email accounts and hard resetting. I cut all processes using SBSettings and killed all processes related to mail. So I have nothing running now, and I deleted all of the readers, Doc to Go, Quick Office, and other apps I had added.

Now I have nothing running and no apps installed.

Then I set up mail again from the bottom, as if the iPad came in the mail today. One gmail account still automatically opens and previews .jpg attachments, and show .doc, .pdf attachments with their respective icons. THE OTHER GMAIL ACCOUNT IN THE SAME iPAD MAIL APP DOES NOT OPEN THE SAME MESSAGES I HAVE FORWARDED TO BOTH. I would see an arrow pointed down in the icon inside that "faulty" mail account, and the name of the attachment below the icon. I have pressed my finger a gadzillion times on those icons, only to see the spinning wheel briefly and nothing. Holding them down would do nothing, and i can't open in other apps.

The wackiest thing is... when I hit forward (by tapping the curved arrow at the top), I get a drop-down choice list: "INCLUDE" and "DON'T INCLUDE" attachments. When I tap on INCLUDE, .jpg files immediately load and show in the reply message, only two of four .pdfs load and open, but no .docx attachments would.

How would we be supposed to troubleshoot or fix something like this?

Settings\Mail,Contacts,Calendars Mail section - do you have Load Remote Images set to On or Off?

Not a bug - you need to set up the advanced mail service which you pay for to enable handling of attachmens to mobile.

Alternatively associate your Yahoo mail with another email program and use the alternative email to receive your attachment carrying emails.

Thanks for the reply Coppertiger. The setting "Load Remote Images" would have to be on for any gmail account to load images in the Mail.app. Therefore, YES it was on. I turned it off and on many times.

The link you posted is old. Over two months old. There are many postings complaining about Apple iOS 5 mobilemail, and something is wrong. It's one of the main problems with the new system. I had everything fine since 3.1.2, and worked through 3.1.4, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.5, 4.3, and 5.0 but this time mobilemail has been problematic for everyone all over the world. If you would do a search, you would see billions of postings and complaints about mail not opening attachments, mail not showing attachments but only paperclips, and mail not even launching.

THIS MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

WNY NOT THE IPAD2????? Because my iPhone is still at 4.1 and I refuse to upgrade it to iOS5. it's way too buggy.
