Can't see, quickview or open email attachments...

iPad 2-I can receive emails fine, but cannot see, quickview or open email attachments. I've been sent PDFs and can see a paper clip icon in email list view, but no PDF icon in the email.

Why?

Thanks.

Well, my case is a little different. The iPad2 came in 5.0.1 back in December 2011, and I have not touched either the Gmail settings or the Mail.app settings ever since then. I was able to open and view the .docx, .pdf, .jpg and all the other files until last week. Something stopped working in one account inside Mail.app. I open the same old email messages with attachments from last month, and I can't see what I saw before in the iPad. I open my laptop and I see them fine and the new mesasges fine. I go back to the iPad to see if mail attachments would open and display correct icons or automatically convert to images in the other Gmail account that I call "home" and they do fine, even right now. The one I call "work" is screwed. I don't get it at all. I am a computer geek since Mac IIe in 1984 and Commodore 64 in 1984, but this is something I have never seen before.

Got it figured out the day before yesterday. I was just going through installed packages in my iphone and found that the iPad didn't have afc2add. Yea, that's all it was: AFC2ADD

Some of my free apps that rely on the internet were quitting on me, they wouldn't launch. That got fixed too. Odd, that this tweak would fix that, and fix the mail attachment reader.

Emma_82, are you 'logged out' of your account elsewhere, or (say if logged in from a browser) do you have the "Keep me connected' box enabled. try ensuring that you are logged out from other access points. There is a mechanism that locks email attachments to the first available download point thats opened to receive. As long as this point is active, the attachment cannot be collected elsewhere, even though the marker for it will indicate there is an attachment present. When logging out of other accesses, sometimes - a few minutes to half an hour - may be required for the server to update that the connection is disconnected.

This has been documented by several providers in connection with primary servers of the POP protocol. Can you confirm if this is an issue in your particular case - though obviously it might not be - but worth checking nonetheless.

Best regards, Ct

i have the same problem - a few days ago mail stopped opening attachments (iphone 4, ios5.1.1) - i mean every attachment: jpg,pdf,....which i have opened before succesfully!

btw i am using gmail IMAP

seems like a bug which does not affect all users, closing mail, restarting, resetting does not help!! grrrr

the only workaround which i have found so far is to forward the message to yourself - and attachments open without problems

By no means an expert...but...

Sent a jpeg attachment to a friend with no accompanying text. Could not open the attachment on his ipad 2. He gave me his ipad 2 to try and find out why. Used a fix suggested in this thread. Forwarded the email saying that I wanted to include the attachment. It immediately downloaded it. Not satisfied with this as a satisfactory solution, I perservered.

Sent the same jpeg attachment to the ipad 2; this time with some accompanying text. No problem. The jpeg attachment immediately downloaded.
