What is after OS X 10.9?
After OS X Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) there will be OS X 10.9 which is followed by what? Not 10.10 because .10 is equivalant to .1, will it be OS X 11?
iPad, iOS 5.1

What a silly question, Obviously they will make it OS X 11!
No Just OS 11 or OS XI but the X it the ten in roman numbers
(I know this thread is super-ancient, but it somehow came up as the 5th listing when I Googled apple os x 10.9, and there was no correct answer posted.)
Software versions don't generally work like decimals. The dots are separators, not part of the numbers, so 10 comes after 9. So we can assume 10.10 is next, but Apple can deviate for whatever reason it wants.
Interestingly, since Apple changed the name from Mac OS X to just OS X, the "X" has become a more integral part of the name/brand and won't likely be going away anytime soon -- strange how that works, since "X" is still officially pronounced "ten" AFAIK. Remove that, and you're left with the generic "OS", instead of "Mac OS". (Not to mention, OS X 10.? is a bit redundant to begin with.)
BTW, I agree, Spinal Tap for OS XI/11 would be sweet. 🙂
Somewhat reliable source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning#Separating_sequences
Bonus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning#Apple_2 talks about Apple's version numbering history. Slightly different topic about how the version numbers used to be more like decimals.
I'm pretty sure they'll end up changing the name. Unless I'm mistaken the X in "OS X" stands for 10 being the Roman numeral 10. Unless they keep the X they'll just call it OS 11

So many grrrr ...
Finally someone says OS Xi instead of OS X 11 , OS X 11 = OS 10 11
I have always wondered whether they wouldn't eventually merge OS X and iOS into a new, unified Apple OS.
That would also make it easier to say that an app runs on, say, "Android and Apple". I often see that the general public has no idea what "iOS" and "OS X" are, preferring just to say "iPhone" and "Mac".
(I live in Holland, by the way; this may be different in other counties.)
