iTunes Producer Import Errors

Help!

I have been trying to upload my iBooks Author ibook for 2 weeks now and no luck. I received the checkmark and the activity log said I had completed everything, but no appearance in iTunes connect. I have communicated with iBookstore Support, but was told to re-upload and when that didn't work was told to be patient (5 days now).

Finally I found some others in these forums with the same problem and have found the errors in the Package History, so I have tried re-uploading, re-uploading without video, and re-uploading with misc. religious relics in my hands.

My latest Import Error is on the Validation Page and reads:

"Internal error: java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: bundle schema/20/rng/opf.rng" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)"

but now the Package History says I am "uploading," which I think means there is just a bad connection, but really I have no idea and even less hope. Also, the Book Assets (book and sample) have a new "repair" button that had never appeared previously. Tried re-applying the assets and uploading but am getting same error message.

So it appears I am losing ground.

Any advice would be appreciated and also, can someone confirm that I should see my submission in itunes Connect within the hour.

Thanks!

i tried to upload again today using my Mac OSX lion Machine

it has a new error about a malformed - badly done epub

grrr

the same file uploaded through my Snow Leopard machine has no issues at all

uploaded the file no problem

woohoo

so i went back to my lion machine and tried the terminal thing and it refused to do it because it said i needed a password.

since my lion machine doens't have a password...

i have decided that i will backup that hard drive and then use time machine to set the Lion machine back to March 25th 2012

and hope that fixes the issue

Really?

We're all facing import errors that reference Java and a new Java update is sent out and it doesn't even work with iTunes Producer? Then all of us terminal programmers (not us artists and writers!) are supposed to reconfigure our machines with some lines of code I can't even understand. Plus (real shocker) it didn't even work for me (or daniel) and now I have 2 levels of import errors. I find myself nostalgic for the original error msg that started this post but which I can no longer even reach. And these people get to keep their jobs?

Open the Terminal application, add the following string until Terminal:

cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions

sudo ln -s CurrentJDK /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5

sudo ln -s CurrentJDK /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0

This helped me to get rid of the "Java 1.5, 1.6, or 1.7 is required. Currently, java is the default java version. Please upgrade

."-error.

Thanks!

(Now if only changing metadata of existing iBooks would work...)

i have some breathing room cause i ahve a 2nd machine with snow leopard installed

i would suggest using time machine to go back because that metadata error (in my case anyway) was some weird hiccup connected to this last java update (i know that cause the file uploaded fine from my snow leoard machine)

can you go back in time machine to prior to the java update?

I had the same problem with iTunes Producer: My book would not upload to the Apple store with this error:

Java 1.5, 1.6, or 1.7 is required. Currently, java is the default java version. Please upgrade.

In my research on the web, I have found that there is a bug with the latest Java upgrade from Apple. This bug prevents the iTunes Producer scripts from connecting up with the Apple store.

Thanks to mmadness quoting an Apple email that explains a workaround to create a symlink.

I typed the following into the Terminal and hit return:

cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions

This command moves me to the correct folder.

Then I typed in and then hit return:

sudo ln -s CurrentJDK /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5

And I got this rather intimidating response:

WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss

or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your

typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.

To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.

Password:

I entered my mac's admin password, hit return, and it accepted the command.

Then I typed in the second command and hit return:

sudo ln -s CurrentJDK /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0

This command was accepted as well.

I quit Terminal and started Producer. The delivery went right through. Thanks to all and I hope this helps.

Good News/Bad News

Good news: I lugged my 24 in iMac down to the Apple Store Genius Bar last night and had a very expert IT person try to resolve 1) the orignal "MalformedURLException" error that started this post, 2) the latest Java version errors ignited by Apple's sloppy (and still unresolved) update, or 3) at least upload my iBook to the iStore. He was unable to resolve the Java issues 1 or 2 (my machine would not even install the latest update of the update from last night and a crucial Apple link on their own site was misdirected), but was able to upload my iBook by using a separate "clean" operating system. This separate operating system had no Java at all, a luxury we, in the real world, cannot afford. It seems the "MalformedURLException" error is something unique to the Java on our machine (its history, installs, etc.). This is why some people have no problem, some get lucky, and some are able to upload on a different machine.

Bad News: The only answer is to back up your hard drive and do a clean install of Lion. Or you can wait for Apple to finally resolve its Java update issues (funny, I know) and hope that fixes it.

Worse news: my iBook uploaded which was confirmed by iTunes Producer and the Package History (indicated it had been "Uploaded"), but today iTunes producer changed the Package History to "Update Error".

Good luck.

My clean install (see above) worked for me, but since then I have received a solution from the Apple iBookstore tech support which, if it works, is sure to be much less painful:

ERROR ITMS-9000: "java.lang.Error: Internal error: java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: bundle schema/20/rng/opf.rng" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)

"You can make an update to your settings in iTunes Producer to avoid this issue.

1. Open iTunes Producer

2. From the iTunes Producer menu, open Preferences.

3. Click on the icon for Advanced settings at the right side of the screen.

4. Uncheck the box next to Signiant.

5. Close settings and reattempt your delivery.

You will be notified by email once Signiant is available again."

Plus there's always the firewall solution (see just above) to try before you do anything as drastic as me.

HOPE THIS HELPS.
