No. iCloud requires iOS 5. The iPhone 3G only works with iOS 4.2.1 or earlier. Sorry.

sorry it didn't get specific enough. can i upgrade everything else and not include the phone or must the upgrade include all devices? What will I be missing if I don't upgrade my phone?
Oh, yes you can update other devices and use the cloud with those, without the need to update the iPhone 3G. If you don't upgrade your phone then you can't get any of the iOS 5 features including iCloud. But your other devices will be fine.
