Download time

Really strange. I agree with your suspicion that nook gives preference to their devices. Browsing on the iPad 3 is faster than the nook but fails on the downloading of subscriptions. But nook promotes their app for ipad, but does a disservice to those who opt to use iPad. Thanks skydiver119.

I downloaded 3 magazines (Readers Digest, PopSci and Natgeo) from BN thru Nook app and was surprised that the usage in my Ipad3 shot up by 100mb. That is more or less 33mb per magazine. But the BN website says the natgeo issue is only 4mb. Does this explain why the downloads of mags via nook app takes 5-8x longer to Ipad3 than to nook?

I am planning to get my subscriptions from itunes. Their Natgeo file size is around 4mb. Does anybody know if after the download the usage will likewise increase by only 4mb? Or will I also end up loosing 30-35mb of memory like downloading via nook app.

I saw the 4mb file size at iTunes natgeo site mag. Maybe the information being given is misleading. I have this feeling that the problem lies with BN who probably controls the download speed. I just downloaded a 120mb free magazine and it just took me a respectable 40 mins. Thanks James for the reply that gives me a better picture of the problem.

In April this year I shifted from NC (touch screen failure only after 15 months of moderate use) to Ipad 3, Initially the download times of my magazines from my nook account was taking at least an hour. Some bloggers suspected that BN was probably cutting down the download speed since the download was not to their own device. Any after only a week or two, downloads of my mags, NG...Car and Driver, etc have gone down to 5 to 10 minute, good enough for my connection speed. To answer your question, I was able to successfully download to my Ipad 3 all my mag subscriptions that were previously stored in my NC. When I registered my new device with BN I suppose that their system automatically will erase all stored items in my old nook, though i never had the chance to check this out since my NC does not function anymore. Once the new device is registered with BN you will notice that all your subscriptions will appear in the "archived" section. All you have to do is download them one by one to your new device.

My understanding is that suppose that your NC is stolen, the user will initially enjoy all the contants bought from BN. What you do is archive all the books, mags, etc sourced from BN. The one using your NC will suddenly discover that all the contents sourced from BN will disappear. However, your personally installed music, videos, pdf will remain in the stolen NC. Hope this helps.

I was able to easily store all my books and mags to my new device, new ipad. All those that was previously stored in my NC. Remember that this only works for all those sourced from BN, free or paid items in your BN account.

It was in April that my NC "died". It was a good thing that my son really convinced me to wait for the new ipad, due mainly to the retina display. I almost got an ipad2. 70% of my use is for reading books and mags, the rest for browsing and just checking emails. I do not use the ipad as a productivity tool, which for this purpose I use my desktop. No games for me.

I am very happy with the new ipad....the images are sooooo clear.. Really enjoying mags like Natgeo, car and driver..Worth the wait. The bigger size, than NC, is not an issue because I do not bring it around. Only for home leisure use.

Download times okay at around 5 to 10 minutes each. Boating mag took six minutes 2 days ago. No problems whatsover withl all apps downloaded.
