I had the same problem and tried all of the above but nothing resolved it - the books still showed up in my Cloud on the iPad Kindle App. When I tried to delete them on Amazon.com from my trash it said I could not delete them as I may want to download them again!

Have sorted it out though - here's what I did.

1) Go to Amazon.COM rather than .co.uk - go to 'Your Account' and scroll down to Digital Content. Under 'Your Media Library' click on 'Your Collection'

2) In the 'View...' drop down near the top, click the drop down then select 'Trash'

3) click on the items you want to permanently delete click 'return to your collection'

4) Then log on to Amazon.co.uk and go to 'Manage My Kindle'

5) The titles you want to permanently delete will have reappeared here

6) Select the drop down and permanently delete them

job done!

I've tried to follow the steps you've listed, but it seems my problem is slightly different though similar: I have a book showing up on my iPad Kindle app on the Device tab, but it does NOT appear in the Cloud. I want to permanently delete the book. I've tried to see if there is something that should be sync'd (and, yes, Whispersync is turned on), but nothing I do gets it to show up on Amazon's Manage Your Kindle page! It ONLY appears on the device itself. How can I get rid of it?!? What am I missing? Thanks, and sorry if I'm boneheading on something here :-)

katz079919:

I agree that the wording is not helpful, and would remove/modify that post if possible.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------

But I still want to correct pjl123's comments so that others don't delete their paid-for books (or entire library) by following the wrong advice.

He/she said:

"When you no longer want a book on your pad, touch and hold the cover, then delete it. You can pull it back from amazon's archives whenever you want."

This is not true and you will lose your paid-for books permanently if you do this.

And then when corrected by another user, he/she said this in response:

"I am surprised by that, but I would suggest that you don't delete stuff on the amazon site. That may be permanent, if you are right. From the app, move books on and off your pad using the app."

Rather than actually look into it, realize the mistake, and correct the initial post, he/she simply adds to the confusion with another piece of wrong advice.

You can't move and/or delete books off your iPad using the Kindle app.

You can only modify your book library from your Amazon account, and even then the only option is to delete the books permanently from your account.

I'm not trying to single out a specific user, I'm simply trying to correct the false information in a clear way so that others don't end up deleting their paid-for books permanently.

It's also a message for all of us to be more aware of what advice we offer here, and to clearly correct it when it is found to be wrong.

It's nothing personal, and keep in mind that posters are anonymous here as well.

Thanks
