How to duplicate calendar events copy paste?

I am trying to build my schedule on calendars with my iPad. I would like to put in my work schedule but I don't work the same days every week. I am looking for a way to copy paste/duplicate entries so I don't have to keep inputting them. Because I don't work the same days each week/month I can't use the repeat feature. I have tried a long press to copy and paste but it moves the whole event and doesn't duplicate it. Is there a way to do this? I have found that I can do this on my Macbook Pro in iCal and then it updates the iPad through iCloud but I would like to do it with my iPad because I have the iPad and iPhone with me all the time and the Macbook stays at home.

iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + 4G (VZ), iOS 5.1

Hi there,

SOLUTION!! After reading and fighting a lot with this, I've discovered randomly a shortcut/workaround to copy/paste events (works on IPAD and IPHONE). I've i-cloud based calendars and google-based calendars. REQUIRED: to have at least one google-based calendar. I'm guessing with other services might work too, but I can't assure. First, you create an event in one calendar (doesn't matter which one). When you click on the event on the ipad, the window that opens (without clicking the edit button), shows the calendar where the event is on. Click on the calendar there. It opens a new window with the list of your calendars. If you change the event from one calendar (google-based or icloud based) to the gogle-based calendar repeatedly and fast (without closing the window), after three-four times.... VOILÁ!! It duplicates!!! 🙂🙂

I'm guessing there's a problem with the time of coordination of google system with icloud system that makes that the event duplicates. With the new event (that it's completely independent from the first one), you just have to change the details (or drag and drop in the new time slot), and that's it!! 😎

Atention: It doesn't work if you have guests to the event!!

Enjoy!

Here are my thoughts, and what I have been doing since day dot.

Yes, it will be good when the Devs sort this put as it perplexes many, many folk.

Reading below, one suggestion was to make recurring appointments at the time (or later by editing) when you make the first date. It's about the same as I always do, and it's not hard.

When you set the FIRST event, choose to REPEAT. (Every week, day or month) Then select an END DATE for as many "spare events as you need".

You will find that sequential pages pop up, for ALL THE FUNCTION YOU NEED.

DO that.

Then, simply drag and drop those "surplus days" onto the days you actually need them to be on.

However, there is one other simpler way, that involves a free app called AGENDA that you naturally sync with as many calendars as you wish. That has the option to copy and paste to different dates/days etc. Whilst retaining base-data. I turn off the "agenda reminder functions, and all others. It just sits there in case someone wants to use a copy paste, instead of the prime solution that I explained above.

IVe vey found that for everything there is an answer. Not everything though, is self evident. Help, is good.

Hope all works well for you.

MAy I say Thanks for suggesting this. Ilfont (above)

BUt, I don't see that as something to be called a solution.

its, cumbersome and chancy.

THere is a perfectly valid way to achieve event duplications without all the other creations of G Calendars etc.

I think there are just far too many people relying on an answer to give out garbage as though it was the ultimate "solution" - smiley faces and all.

People, please don't race off making surplus calendars to make ILFONT's idea function!

My valid suggestion is to make recurring appointments at the time (or later by editing) when you make the first date. I have done this forever.

When you set the FIRST event, choose to REPEAT. (Every week, day or month, appropriate for the recurring sequence that you intend to create. It's not important which you choose, but it's easier the repeat monthly if you intend re-booking "somewhere" in a month. )

Then select an END DATE for as many "spare events as you need".

You will find that sequential pages pop up, for ALL THE FUNCTION YOU NEED.

DO that.

HI,

This is easy to achieve:

My valid suggestion is to make recurring appointments at the time (or later by editing) when you make the first date. I have done this forever.

When you set the FIRST event, choose to REPEAT. (Every week, day or month, appropriate for the recurring sequence that you intend to create. It's not important which you choose, but it's easier the repeat monthly if you intend re-booking "somewhere" in a month. )

Then select an END DATE for as many "spare events as you need".

You will find that sequential pages pop up, for ALL THE FUNCTION YOU NEED.

DO that.

Then, simply drag and drop those "surplus days" onto the days you actually need them to be on. The dates will auto-correct, and all related invitees will get the update inclusion requests too. (If you use them)

However, there is one other simpler way, that involves a free app called AGENDA that you naturally sync with as many calendars as you wish. That has the option to copy and paste to different dates/days etc. Whilst retaining base-data. I turn off the "agenda reminder functions, and all others. II'm a new iPhone user and shocked there's no copy/paste or duplicate in the calendar. The iOS calendar just *****. I started using Sunrise, but it does not have this feature either and they just announced they were acquired by Microsoft today:(

Adroid has this feature in the native calendar app since it is core feature of Google calendar. Desperately wishing I could get my company to support Android. I don't understand why people love Apple so much. The platform and core apps have so many missing features...

I think I found an even simpler solution while waiting for Apple to respond with a fix.

This works for duplicating once or several times. I think this is more useful for those using an iPhone and especially if you want to duplicate the event on a date that's some time away...where dragging the event would take forever to do.

This is the instruction for duplicating an event one time:

As others have said, using a previous event, select edit, select repeat, select every day. Select End Repeat, select On Date, and select the following day to end the repeat. Select Done. Then go to the following day, select the event, select Edit, and then change the date to what you want.

Of course, if you want to duplicate an event more than once, you would select a further away End Repeat date.

I think that's easier than dragging the event for days or months.

Actually, you can do this for a single event. For instance, I do this for flight reservations that have been automatically added to my iPhone calendar. You open the event, edit it to occur on the day BEFORE the flight, and save. Then open the first event and change the title to "Check-in". Save it, tapping "for this event only", and you have all the flight information from the original event duplicated for the check-in event the day before.
