System Preferences -> Displays -> Display: check the resolution setting.

Right click on the desktop and select 'Show view options' from the pop-up menu. You can change the icon size as well as the grid spacing there.
I checked that, but that setting is already off. :S I think it may have somthing to do with connecting it to a projector. After I took the adaptor out and closed the powerpoint, everything was all zoomed -- even the thing that shows the volume on screen. Do you know how to fix that? I already tried restarting
Probably activated Zoom accidentally. Check the Seeing tab in the Universal Access pane of System Preferences.

Do you understand the concept of resolutions? The more dots across and down, th mor stuff oyu can display, btu the smaller it is. Projectors are typically lower resolution - at MOST 1024 x 768, so your mac would reset (there are some ways around this but that's beyond my iwllingness to type at the moment)
