Why do all iWork programs beep when I type?

Why do all iWork programs beep when I type? The software was purchased from the APP Store. It is making the products unusable! I cannot find a solution anywhere online.

iWork-OTHER, Mac OS X (10.7.3), iWork programs beep

Let's face facts Darren.

By switching to another account where this does not happen you have established it is something in your account that is causing the beeping.

We can't tell what that is and it seems you can't either. You can simply switch to the other account and transfer your documents and essentials, then delete your problem account after waiting a reasonable period to see that you have not missed something in the transfer.

Often it is some 3rd party utility or system setting that causes the problem. Tracking it down is the hard part, especially if you are not confident in your understanding of how your Mac is set up.

You have gone off and repurchased iWork when that was not the problem. Switching your accounts at this point is the simplest, quickest and surest way to step away from an obviously nagging issue.

Bite the bullet and just do it, unless you have a better idea.

Would be time to learn what was posted a lot of time :

there is no need to buy 3 times an application.

The Mac App Store offer provisions to re-load an application which was bought once.

Start the Mac App Store application

User uploaded file

(1) Click the button « Achats » to display the list of items which you bought

Navigate in the list to reach the problematic one.

Move the cursor above the button [ Installed ] related to this item.

You will get a circular button with a cross.

(2) Click this button to uninstall the app.

After that, enter the Buy scheme.

You will get a new copy for free.

I will try to understand what is failing on your system.

Will be back with (or without) an explanation.

Oops

It appears

that you didn't bought thru Mac App Store but thru Apple Store.

When you bought once, you were delivered a registration code.

This one may be used each time you reinstall the package, no need to buy several times.

In one of your first messages you wrote that when you tried to run the app from an other account, you went through the process of using with my serial number their to set it up. It is not beeping in that account...progress!!

I'm really puzzled. Where were the applications installed ?

The standard location is the global Applications folder.

In this case, the apps are in the folder : Macintosh HD:Applications:iWork '09:

When they are installed this standard way, the apps may be used from every user account existing on the machine.

Are the applications installed in your user accounts ?

In such case, they would be in :

Macintosh HD:Users:<account1>:Applications:iWork '09

Macintosh HD:Users:<account2>:Applications:iWork '09

Knowing the truth is really important because according to the case the problem analysis would be completely different.

In first case the when you run an app, the used account doesn't change the application file used and the FrameWorks files used.

In second case, you use different application files and different FrameWorks files.

It's really difficult to help you because once you wrote :

Because I bought iWork family pack 09 on disc. It asked for it. I have version 4.1 (923)

As far as I know this product doesn't require a registration code.

I did buy via digital download but not through the Mac app store. My invoice is from Feb 2011 (pre lion)and they gave me a serial number. I have no disk. If I download from the Mac app store now will it remember that purchase?

Several helpers (including me) explained you how you were able to download a new copy of the installer (the free trial one)

None told you that you had to pay one more time.

Your original registration code is always valid.

I carefully wrote : you were able to download because now it's no longer available.

Here is an update. I deleted the iWork files using the recommended uninstaller numerous times. I now have an iWork 09 Family Pack retail install disk that I bought and after the install from the disk I am still getting the beeping in all three programs.

At this time, I don't know if you updated the apps installed from the Family Pack. This one install no more than iWork '09 (version 9.0.3) and running the apps as is would beep because the apps must be updated.

Your explanations are changing too often.

To be able to give accurate answers, we must know which is the accurate problem.

So, I repeat:

We must know if the apps are installed in the standard location or if you installed them in the different accounts.

In the second case, we must know which is exactly the version installed in each account.

In all cases, we need to know which is the contents of the Fonts folder dedicated to each account :

Macintosh HD:Users:<account1>:Library:Fonts

Macintosh HD:Users:<account2>:Library:Fonts

installed in the standard location: YES every time. Always installed from original account in the standard location.

exactly the version installed: I had one account until it was recommended to set up a test account. I have installed to the standard location 3 ways (uninstalling in between the ways). 1:Digital down load with Trial version ver 9.03 using my registration #. 2: Mac App Store ver9.1. 3: An actual retail disc ver 9.03. With each install I have checked for available updates and updated.

In all cases, we need to know which is the contents of the Fonts folder dedicated to each account: How do I check this?

You navigate in the folders hierarchy.

As you are running 10.7.x, press the option key while clicking the Finder's menu item « Go » to reveal/acceed the Library menu item.

User uploaded file

I wish to know the contents of these folders (there is one for each account) because a problem with one of them may explain the apps behavior.

You wrote that you ran my uninstall iWork '09 script but I don't know if you did that from every account.

At this time, what is important is to know if you ran it from your original account. One other possible culprit is the file :

<startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Caches:com.apple.iWork.fonts

Running my script remove the one available in the account in use but, if one of the user's Fonts folder is odd, the file which was rebuilt later may be odd too.

So, if there are fonts in your user's Fonts folder, it would be fine to :

select all of them

trigger the Finder's menu item :

Files > Compress (the selected files) to get a file Archive.zip embedding the fonts in a packed form.

trash every files from the user's Fonts folder

trash the file : <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Caches:com.apple.iWork.fonts

restart the machine

This way we would be sure that the file

<startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Caches:com.apple.iWork.fonts

which will be rebuilt when you will restart Pages will be as clean as the one available in the alternate account.

If I guessed well, the app would no longer beep.
