Can i exchange my MacBook Pro because of an overheating problem?

Hi, I bought a MacBook Pro in october 2011 not directly from apple but from Argos, and it is only until know that I have installed euro truck simulator (which isn't a particulally heavy game) that my MacBook Pro starts to overheat. The fans come on and the temperature has risen to over 55 degrees. So i was wondering, would apple exchange my computer for another one even if I dont have a reciept?

Thanks, Nick

Quite within operating specs; I've run mine up to 95 or more on both the CPU and the GPU when running a graphics simulation program on Win7 on top of VMWare Fusion. Remember that NOWHERE in the literature does it say these are LAPTOPS, cause they are not. And should you manage to ovewhelm the cooling fan(s), it will shut down by itself to prevent thermal suicide. Also, and I'm gonna take flak for saying this, the 13" MBPs will run a bit hotter cause they have only one fan that has to work harder, compared to the 15" and 17" two, although all have the same heat sources (CPU/GPU/HDD/DVD/RAM).

If you want to help it keep cool, quickest way is to increase the space beneath the Mac. I always have mine perched on top of a Road Tools CoolPad ( http://roadtools.com/ ). If that is still not enough for your peace of mind, there are also pads that have bigger fans underneath, to enhance the process.

Well first of all, MacBook Pros tend to get hot under any workload. Even if it isn't working that hard, or you don't "think" it's working hard it'll still get warm. If it gets to the point where you are un-able to touch it, place it on a solid surface such as a desk and wait for it to cool off a bit. I don't think they will replace your Mac just for that reason since it states in the user manual that came in the box with your Mac this:

Proper handling The bottom of your MacBook Pro may become very warm during normal use. The MacBook Pro complies with the user-accessible surface temperature limits defined by the International Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment.

To operate the computer safely and reduce the possibility of heat-related injuries, follow these guidelines:

  • Set up your MacBook Pro on a stable work surface that allows for adequate air circulation under and around the computer.
  • Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow, blanket, or other soft material, because the material can block the airflow vents.
  • Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro.
  • Do not push objects into the ventilation openings.
  • If your MacBook Pro is on your lap and gets uncomfortably warm, remove it from

your lap and place it on a stable work surface.
