I checked out the weights of both of them, and the Snugg is listed as a couple of ounces more than the Bear Motion. Sorry that your experiences with the Bear Motion weren't good though. Mine stays shut nicely, but it did take a bit of time to break in and stretch a little.

The thing I liked about the Snugg was that it has a loop on the back. That would make it comfortable to hold it for longer periods of time (I think). People complain that it's not real leather, but whatever. It seems like a nice case.

I know you said under $40.00 but I just thought I'd share it anyways...I got the Targus Slim case usually go for $50.00 but if you shop around online, you can get it at about $42 to $46.00 the cheapest.

The case is beautifully made, slim and fantastic material (not cheap looking ). Though I must say that I had trouble with this case at first since Targus released the case without knowing that iPad had change the position of the new iPads magnets which a lot of cases out there is having same problem with the auto on and off feature when you open and close the cover but fear not since Targus has great customer service, when I called them and explained the problem, they honestly admit that a lot of people are experiencing the same and sent me a new corrected case and told me too that I don't have to send them the first one I got for a replacement....what a service.

This is my first iPad. It's the new iPad and with a Smart Cover and I find that the Tucano Second Skin is the best case for it. It's a snug fit and protects the iPad's back perfectly especially when I rest it on the Tucano if standing the iPad on a work top or desk. I got mine from Amazon UK for about £20's, plus delivery.

I realize I'm late to the party here, but this more for the benefit of those who hit this with a Google search.

If you want something that's low profile (way smaller than anything that's been mentioned here), and effective for protection, take a look at the Griffin IntelliCase. Honestly, it was the first case I saw in Best Buy when I bought my iPad 3, but I've searched high and low without finding anything that carries the same feature set. From one OCD to another, I highly recommend.
