What is the best slim/light iPad 3 case under $40?

Is anyone else OCD about buying the perfect case for the ipad 3? I had an Apple Smart Cover but I don't think it provdies enough protection and functinality for the price so I'm selling it.

Anyway, what is the best iPad 3 case with a slim and light design under $40?

PU leather cases are pretty durable, light, and affordable. Snugg is a popular choice and most people are satisfied with it from reading the reviews. It comes in 8 different colors, folds and stands, and a built in smart cover. It cost around $25 which is well below $40.

If you want to spend less then go with Ctech. It cost about only $8 with pretty much the same features as Snugg. But of course you get what you pay for.

I received an iPad for my birthday. My wife kept nagging me to get a cover for it before I travelled again. There are so many choices out there, and I wanted to be sure to make the right one! I looked at all the stores, I looked online, and was overwhelmed into indecision.

Finally faced with an upcoming trip the following week, I read some reviews, compared prices, and I added the SNUGG to my cart and checked out. It arrived a few days later, and I easily slipped my ipad into the good looking black leather case.

Some of the features I love:

-When you close the case, there is a little magnet that puts the ipad in sleep mode. It also ensures the cover remains tightly closed.

-Folds back a couple of ways, can lay it so the back is raised just a few inches, or can flip it the other way so it is almost vertical (perfect for setting on the kitchen counted to view recipes and such)

-Contrary to what others say, I like the little strap in the back that I can slip my hand into for added safety when walking. Also gives me a little extra piece of mind when the kids steal my ipad.

-Clever engineering ensures easy open access to all plugs, switches, and camera

-High quality looks. Love the leather and the contrasting white top stitching.

-Oh yeah....it's UNDER $40 BUCKS!

The SNUGG exceeded my expectations in every way. I'm glad I didn't rush in and buy the one at the Apple store, the early bird may get the worm, but I got a great looking protective case for my ipad!

Good Luck!

OP probably just wants to get some ideas. It might be a subjective topic, but never hurts to hear what others think.

I've tried a ton of different cases but I just like the Smart Cover the best. It's relatively light and non obtrusive. For the back, I've tried a number of hard shells and have stuck with the Caudabe Shell. The Incipio Smart Feater is a good one too. I find the combo of the Smart Cover and the back shell keeps my iPad nice and slim but still protected.

The Devicewear Cases are some of the best out there and they run for well under 40 bucks.

Those look great but unfortunately don't offer an option for standing up in portrait mode which is a deal breaker for lots of us.

Best budget case I've found that offers that is the rooCase Slim Shell Origami which I've been using for a few months and really like it. Currently $20-$25 depending on the color, but I was able to nab one on sale for only $12 shipped via Prime. Like it enough that I'm going to pick up another next time it dips below $20.

CamelCamelCamel.com is great for setting up Amazon price alerts if you're not already familiar with it.
