I have office 2011. I have an issue with excel sheet, whenever I make new excel sheet and save it. I cant write in this sheet next day, it becomes read-only file. then i have to make the new excel sheet. Is their anybody who can tell me, How to remove that read-oly tag from my excel sheet file.

Do a Get Info on the Folder that these are in, at the bottom do you have Read Only privileges for that folder?
If you do a Get Info on that Excel sheet file, can you change it so you have Read & Write?
It's not showing any read-only option in folder properties. I had tried to unlock the excel sheet but i could not. if you provide me the instructions how to do this? it would be helpful.

Where are these files exactly, path wise?
As far as the Locked, is the Red arrow's box checked?
As far as rights, have you expanded the little triangle & unlocked the Blue Arrow's lock with an admin Password?
As far as Red arrows locked option, it is not checked (empty)
For ownership and permission, i did choose the option read and write only. but still when I open any excel file, its showing Read-only on the title and i can't save the changes. I have to make new excel sheet.

these excel sheets are saved in one folder which is the subfolder of my documents.

What happens if you open the File & save a copy somewhere else?
when i try to save the original file, it says me to save the new file. so i have to make one more copy of added stuff in same file.
Everything else is working perfect. I have no issues with word, ppt.

I've had this problem and found that saving the file in Excel 97-2004 Workbook (xls) format cured it. The file I had this problem with had a date (m/d/yy) included in the file name. Removing the date also worked, but that wasn't a good solution for me.

Another solution we found is the you can not use '/' in the name of your file. It will allow you to save it on your mac, where as in Windows it says you can't use the character / (backslash) however once you save it and reopen it on a mac, it will be read only....

I got the solution already. When I save the file, I save as a xls format. Before it was xlsx format. So by saving as xls format, I can edit the file whenever i want.
