Cost of renting movies on Apple TV in the UK

I'm new to Apple TV (bought it yesterday!) so bear with me....

On the Apple TV main screen I'm offered HD movies to rent - am I right in presuming if I click to rent these I'l be renting htem from the Apple Store?

But I can also stream movies from Netflix on my Apple TV.

Renting one movie from the Apple Store costs £4.49; whereas a month's 'all you can eat' membership of Netflix cost £5.99. Why would anyone rent from Apple given those prices? And whydo Apple undermine their own store by enabling Netflx on their device? Is there something I've misunderstood?!

Prices vary a little depending on age of film and whether or not SD or HD.

You can choose to rent SD, 720 HD or 1080p HD in Settings for iTunes Store on AppleTV

SD will generally be £2.49 for older titles, £ 3.49 for newer with HD costing £3.49 and £4.49.

Some films will be on offer for 99p or £1.99 (SD/HD).

Not sure if you've signed up for Netflix but the selection in UK is largegly older films form the 90s/noughties, and lots of foreign martial art type stuff much of which is poor. TV Show stuff is expanding but it's still quite limited.

For £5.99 it's fair value but I struggle to find thinsg I want to watch that I've not seen - currently worth it for kids shows I wouldn't buy.

Currently the content on Netflix cannot match new features available in itunes store.
