ABC Player app is not working
I have deleted and re-installed the app several times and still nothing. The app opens with the ABC orange screen and then just a blank black screen.

The ABC player app icon is grey. I think that you are talking about the ABC Family App which is orange. Just clarifying is all that I'm doing.
If there are no app updates and you deleted and reinstalled the app - I don't know how much you can do except to wait for another app update.
The only things that I can think left to try are to reset the iPad, try quitting ALL apps - restart the iPad and then try the app again - and finally - contact the app web support. Most apps have links to support in the app description page in the app store.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus ➖ sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
resettign the device might be the way to go because my ABC app works, I just opened it. And to clarify, the icon is grey, but when you tap on it you see a full orange page iwth the ABC logo in the middle.
I didn't start any shows streaming, but it did fully open.
Jmmm. Try once again to delete any apps in the task bar. Double tap the home button to see them, then touch and hold any of them until they jiggle. Delete them all by touching the minus sign. Then do the reboot that demo described. There is a conflict somewhere.......
Lastly, where in the world are you? I wonder if abc has a lisnence problem with your local, or even your specific Internet provider???

Good question. That might be the reason, but I figured there would be some sort of message that would come up on the screen when launching the app.
Also - was the app purchased in the US store and are those with problems now using the app in another country???
Thanks for all of the advice, but I've tried everything suggested and still get blank black screen. I live in the good ole USA and got the app from the app store on my iPad. My son is a computer engineer and I'm going to contact him about this issue and let you know what his suggestion is. All my other apps and video work perfectly.
I'm sorry that I couldn't help. It works great on my new iPad and it worked great on my original iPad.
You tried quitting all apps, restarting the iPad, deleting and reinstalling the app?
You could try asking for help here. It can't hurt anyway to try.
Does anybody know. Is abc in a spit fight with any particular cable provider? The only think I can think of is that your particular ISP and abc are having a disagreement. I know that some of the network players are tied to your ISP. CNN is an example. I dint know abc was in the same position, but who is your provider?
Still having this problem. I, too, have a new iPad. I noticed that the reviews in the app store under the abc app stopped mid march. This is the exact time this app was updated...march 15. I think the update has caused this issue and abc will have to figure it out. People who have had the app for a while are having no issues. Unfortunately, us new iPad owners cannot get this app to work. I have emailed abc but have not gotten a response.

Im having the same problem!! The ABC logo pops up then a blank screen. I've tried resetting from my settings, a soft reset, turning off and on, deleting and reinstalling, and restoring from my MacBook, and nothing has worked yet.
I've also posted a concern on the ABC site with no response.
If anyone finds an answer please post!! I'll do the same! Thanks! I really want to be able to watch Grey's Anatomy between classes! ;)
Nothing has worked for me. Very frustrating that abc wont respond to this problem. Today I went to the actual abc site and sent them a detailed email and expressed my disappointment that their iPad app help did not respond to me. I will post an answer if they bother to respond. I want to watch grey's anatomy too!
Im having the same problem but my daughter is able to get the app working on her iPhone 4s. I've reset, reinstalled, and even traded in for a new iPad too but it still won't work but my friends new one did.
Since everything else works great on my ipad2, it's got to be a glitch with the ABC app. Hopefully, ABC is working on It. They have probable gotten thousands of emails about it. I still have not received a response.
My sever is my local cable company. No trouble with the server. Every other app works great. This one just gives me the orange and then black screen. I have emailed ABC several times and have not received a response. If they ever answer me, I will post it. It seems that people who already had the app for a while, are not having trouble with it. Anyone with new ipad2's that were purchases within the last month cannot get it to work.
My wife and I both have ipad2s. She got her's last June and me this week. She has abc and it has always worked fine. I just got my iPad however and it does the black screen thing described above. We are using the same Internet. The only difference is she downloaded the app last June and me last weekend.
Thank you so much Jrlett for the info. That is exactly what I suspected, but could not confirm. Anyone that has tried over the last month to get the ABC app seems to have the same black screen issue. I have contacted ABC and to date have never received a response. I imagine they are being flooded with emails. I hope they correct the app soon. Thanks again. I guess we all have to be patient until the app is fixed. Not much else we can do!
