I have the same problem with not connecting to the Internet via wi-fi and then not being able to Home Share when using an ethernet cable. It will not recognize my password. At the Apple store, they said it was not the ATV3, the ISP said there was no problem there.

My response is to take it back and get a full refund until and not get another until the problem is worked out.

I have ATV and it connects to the WIFI, but has NO internet access. If you are trying to fix this issue yourself, like me, I have a VERY strong feeling it is going to take opening up the ports manually in your router set-up in order to get it working. You'll need to manually plug your computer into your router and go to your browser and enter 192.168.1.1 I own a Linksys router and that's what works with Linksys, not sure about others. You'll need to enter your password if your router is password protected. For Linksys, leave user name blank and use the word, admin as the password. Then, go to the area where you open ports. I'll need to research this some more myself. But the ports used by Apple TV are 123, 3689, 80, 53. Once you open these ports, it may fix the problem. I'll post back if it works for me... Apple TV did the same thing my last streaming video device did, worked for a year, once the warranty was expired stopped working. Very convenient for Apple, huh? Can you say, $29.00 for Apple care, yeah! 😟

I am pleased to read all these problems re Apple TV not connected.I gave up with mine months ago.Just took a look again still not working and think this product is a complete waste of money! I am out of guarantee so will probably give up on it.It is frustrating for people like myself who are not technically minded.

This is not a good advert for apple .

This bug is bigger than the subset of products described in the above article:

According to the document, affected units will have a serial number ending in DRHN, and the third and fourth characters of the serial number must contain one of these pairs: H9, HC, HD, HF, HG, HH, HJ, HK, HL, HM, HN, HP, HQ, HR, HT, HV, HW, HX, J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, J6, J7, J8, J9.

I don't have an AppleTV with those sequences and yet I'm having a similar issue - AppleTV thinks its connected via Ethernet (I've unplugged Ethernet) and despite a reset (can't restore because it can't get on the network) it does not see the WLAN in my house, and thinks its connected via Ethernet.

When I go into the Settings menu, Network shows Ethernet - despite that there is no Ethernet connection.

When I plug the Ethernet cable into it, and do a reset, it still has a self assigned address, and therefore does not see the network.

Any ideas?

If not, what's the name of the other AppleTV-like product(s) on the market?

Anyone have any experience with it/them?

If I'm going to re-invest in supporting streaming content in my house, I'm thinking that I need to start weaning myself away from Apple, who doesn't take customer service as seriously as other companies - which is weird, because with this product, the vast majority of the content I'm consuming I pay Apple for - they have stickiness with my wallet.

You'd think that they would bend over backwards to keep me in their walled garden and not wandering over to Amazon or other streaming content providers.

What were you told when you advised Apple support of your problem?

I gave up on using it over wifi and have an ethernet cable connected to it... no reason for lack of connection over airplay, but it still happens. I purchased my Macbook less than one month ago and have had my iPad 3Gen for over a year, my iPod 4Gen, and iPhone 4, nothing seems to matter. I love Apple products but have become increasing frustrated when they DON'T WORK! I wish Apple would honour their products regardless if the customer bought their expensive warranties. Car manufacturers put out recalls... it's time Apple did the same for its ATV3.

I've been having the same problem as most other folks with Apple TV. It kept dropping the connection to my wi-fi network. Brutal. I thought I had a lemon, so I took it to the Apple store a few days ago, and had the same problem with the brand new replacement they gave me.

Today I tried another solution that I saw on one of the posts and it seems to have worked. So I want to share it with you guys.

I upgraded the Firmware on my wi-fi router. After that was done, I reconnected to my network once more and it's been working all day with no problems. I know it may be premature to assume the problem is fixed, but it's been a long time since I've been able to go all day without a glitch.

Fingers crossed.......
