Connecting Digital Camera to iPad

I connected my digital camera, Fuji F30, to my new, 3rd gen, iPad and nothing happens. I mean nothing. iPad Photo does not open and if I launch it manually there is nothing showing in Photo either.

I also tried connecting a flash drive, SanDisk, with pictures I downloaded from the camera, and got a message that said 'CANNOT USE DEVICE. The connected USB device requires too much power'

Any idea what the problem is? The photos on the flash drive were in a folder called DCIM and the flash drive is formatted 'Mac OS extended (Journaled)

Thanks

You people are clueless about the USB flash drives... Apple changed the allowed output from the port on iPad not to save battery life, but to prevent people who jailbroke to use flash drives with the camera kit for movies, music, etc... As far as the camera, Fred has a great point. Also, try having the kit in the iPad, and camera turned on before connecting the camera via USB. If you look at all4cellular they may have 5 in 1 kits for around 5 bucks, i got one and it works fine, takes a few types of media cards and has usb as well. Hope this helps.

Once I finally got the ipad to recognize that there was a CCK plugged into it (which took some finagling but my husband's magic hands inserted it just right and the photo app opened) it said "no photos to import" although I knew for certain that there were about 20 pics (nikon .NEF and .jpg) on the SD card, all of the pics had been renamed on my computer for me to easily organize them (i.e basketball1.jpg). I renamed the pictures to this 8 digit format and VOILA! worked perfectly.
