Outlook 2011 problem syncing contacts with address book

I am aware that Lion has broken the sync ability of Outlook 2011 with Address Book. Hopefullly this will be fixed at some point.

So my problem is that I have decided to use a workaround to get my Address Book contents into Outlook 2011. I am not concerned with further syncing at this point. I just want to get my addresses into Outlook and hope a better fix is offered at some point.

About the only way I could figure out how to do this was to export my Address Book as vCard. I then imported the vCard file into Gmail and then exported that as a CSV file. It contained 550 addresses. I opened it in Excel and it contained 550 rows. Great so far.

I then Imported into Outlook 2011 and chose import a text file. When the mapping window opened, it showed over 890 files instead of 550 and the fields were not mapped correctly. I could not complete the import because it was so screwed up.

So I'm back to square one and very frustrated. There must be others who have the same issue and maybe have figured out a way to do this. Please help.

Microsoft chose not to include Dav protocols in the Mac version of Outlook (although they did include Dav in the Windows version), as iCloud is a Dav service it can not work with Outlook 2011 (ironically it will work with Outlook 2010)

Go to the Microsoft forums and complain about that.

CSV import is OK, but carefully inspect the file for illegal characters (especially spaces in apparantly blank cells), have you tried dropping the vCard file in Outlooks contact folder?

And I was not brushing you off, Microsoft have engineered a ludicrous situation with their Windows versions compatible with iCloud and their Mac versions not, that is worth many complaints (and they have had mine to)

Illegal characters may be the culprit. Do you know of an easy way to check though? I've got nearly 600 contacts.

I'm not sure what you mean about dropping the vCard file in Outlooks contact folder.

OMG, that worked perfectly I think. I just dropped the vCard file into the "Arrange By" area in Outlook Contacts and it went right in. Awesome.

There ya go, drag and drop, at least MS remembered to leave that in their crippled Mac variant. (or maybe they forgot to take it out?)
