pasting URL with accent in Pages

hello

while copying URL in Wikipedia, the pasting in Pages files is unusable when some odd characters are

used , such as accents, parenthesis, etc

(by the way that is not the case with Word....)

I know there are some tricks like inserting symbols (&..) or number

could somebody educate me on what can be done

thanks and best regards

Hello

We aren't sooth sayers so we can't guess which app you are really using.

On your powerMac G4 running Mac OS X 10.4.7, it may be Pages '06 or Pages '08.

Given my practice, links embedding accented characters are correctly treated by Pages '08 (and Pages '09)

I can't test with Pages '06 on my machine running 10.7.3.

Hello

(1) would be fair to edit your profile

(2) When I paste the given link, the late parenthesis is also out of the rectangle enclosing the identified link :

User uploaded file

but when I double click it it open the web page flawlessly.

I checked in the index.xml file. The link is really stored without the parenthesis.

I double checked the wikipedia page.

In this one, the parenthesis isn’t embedded in the link.

Look carefully, the link is in standard style but the late parenthesis is in italic.

Hi Yvan,

"...when I double click it it open the web page flawlessly."

Actually, 'when I click it, it opens a web page flawlessly' would be more accurate.

The URL "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maestà_(Cimabue" (without the closing parenthesis) causes this error page to open because Wikipedia does not include an article with "Maestà_(Cimabue" (no closing parenthesis) as its title.

The "Did you mean:" line offers a suggested possibility for the title of the article being searched, which adds the closing parenthesis, using the style italic to draw attention to the change,

User uploaded file

Clicking on the suggestion opens the page containing this article:

User uploaded file

The URL for this page is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maestà_(Cimabue)

which includes the closing parenthesis.

Incidently, when I turn on 'automatically recognize URLs' in Pages preferences, Pages boxes only "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maest", balking at the accented à that follows.

With 'automatically recognize URLs' turned off, selecting all of "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maestà_(Cimabue)" and using the Link Inspector to "Enable as hyperlink" results in the whole URL being formatted as if it were a URL (blue, underlined type), but the underlying link is identified as "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maest", as it was when the link was automatically 'recognized.'

Pages 4.0.3, OSX v10.4.11

Localization issue, perhaps?

Barry

Hi Barry

You are perfectly right.

I didn't pay sufficient attention to the reached page contents.

I repeated your different attempts and got the same behavior.

Same behavior with English and French version so it's not linked to the localization.

I will add that to the list of reports to file.
